Through last night’s press conference, NewJeans decided to terminate its contract with ADOR and leave the HYBE subsidiary. Join us in the complete details and summary of the NewJeans press conference and all the reasons behind the decision below.
NewJeans Decided to Terminate Contract and Leave HYBE – ADOR
On November 28, precisely a few hours before reaching midnight as the deadline for the contract termination ultimatum ended, NewJeans members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein held an emergency press conference at the Galaxy Hall in Spaceshare Samseong COEX Center, Gangnam, Seoul, to announce their official position.
In the press conference, NewJeans officially announced to terminate of its exclusive contract with ADOR and leave the HYBE subsidiary.
Previously, NewJeans had sent an ultimatum against its label, ADOR, urging the company to meet its demands. If ADOR doesn’t fulfill them, NewJeans warned the agency that they will terminate its contract and leave the HYBE subsidiary label within 14 days, due on November 28.
As the deadline approached, ADOR only gave one public statement, demanding an apology from Belift Lab for all the plagiarism controversy. As for the rest, there was no real action from the company aside from the claims that they want to keep NewJeans.
That is why NewJeans officially ended their contract with ADOR because of a broken trust. Just like we had previously discussed, in the global entertainment industry, “trust” is the primary foundation of exclusive contracts. Therefore, without “trust,” the relationship between a label and its artist will never continue.
“After November 29, we will terminate our exclusive contract with HYBE.
We’re leaving ADOR for a simple reason, and we’re sure many of you, including the press, understand where we’re coming from.
As a management company, ADOR’s job is to protect its artists, but unfortunately, it’s clear they neither have the intention nor the ability to do that for NewJeans.
Staying with ADOR would only waste our time and cause us more emotional stress. Most importantly, we just don’t see any benefit in staying. It’s obvious that ADOR can’t give us the environment we need to succeed. We, the five of us, feel there’s no reason to stay at ADOR anymore.”

Reasons for the Press Conference: HYBE’s Potential Media Play
First among all the crucial details in NewJeans press conference summary is the fact that ADOR seems to take their demands lightly. Therefore, as the company did nothing to resolve the issue, NewJeans stepped up and stated their official position before departing for their schedule.
After all, NewJeans was worried that HYBE and ADOR could twist all the facts through media play during their scheduled activities.
“We’re holding this emergency press conference for a simple reason.
The deadline we set in our official notice was today at noon, and it has passed. Despite this, and after multiple attempts on our part, ADOR has not shown any intention of taking our concerns seriously or engaging with us in good faith.
We are leaving for overseas activities in Japan tomorrow morning, returning next week.
During that time, we’re worried about the possibility of Hybe and ADOR manipulating the media or spreading misleading narratives about our position.
Then, after a lot of discussion, we felt it was essential to be transparent and clear our stance. That is why we’re here today.”
NewJeans Hanni.
HYBE and ADOR are One and the Same
Secondly, NewJeans also stated that HYBE and ADOR are one and the same now. Previously, ADOR was an independent subsidiary of HYBE. But then, HYBE fired Min Heejin and some of its original executives. Then, HYBE replaced the CEO with Kim Ju Young, who was formerly the Chief Relationship Officer of HYBE.
That is why there’s no point in separating these two entities for NewJeans. ADOR is HYBE, and HYBE is ADOR.
“HYBE and ADOR seem to be trying to play down the situation, claiming that HYBE’s actions are separate from ADOR’s and that any contract violations shouldn’t fall on ADOR.
But the reality is HYBE and ADOR are essentially the same now.
ADOR has changed a lot from the company we originally worked with. Even directors who were part of the team were suddenly let go without any notice.
HYBE has reshaped ADOR to fit their own needs. This has cut off the relationships we had built with people we trusted.
With all this broken trust, continuing our exclusive contract with ADOR is no longer possible.”
NewJeans Minji.
HYBE Has Taken NewJeans Lightly
Thirdly, ADOR has no intention to fulfill NewJeans demands. Everything they did was just empty promises as attempts to stall and wait for the issue to die down.
“Despite bringing up our concerns multiple times, both on live broadcasts and through official notices, we’re disappointed by the lack of sincerity in their responses.
It’s clear ADOR is not serious about meeting NewJeans demands.
So, with just a few hours left until the deadline and nothing was done on their end, the five of us have decided to officially terminate our exclusive contract with ADOR as of midnight tonight.”

NewJeans Will Continue Activities as Scheduled
While NewJeans may no longer be an artist under ADOR, they will continue working for all the scheduled activities as planned.
“Once our exclusive contract ends, the five of us will no longer be artists under ADOR. We’re looking forward to moving ahead on our own terms, doing the things we truly want to pursue.
That being said, we’ll still honor all the commitments and schedules we’ve already made. This includes following through with our advertising contracts as planned.”

No Intention of Paying the Penalty Fee: NewJeans Did NOT Violate Contracts
At the same time, while NewJeans might have decided to terminate its contract and leave HYBE, they will not be paying any penalty fee.
“We have never violated our exclusive contract and always put our best effort into everything we’ve done.
So, we believe we have no reason to face any penalties. In fact, ADOR and HYBE, with the way things are now, have breached the contract, leading us to this point. So, we firmly believe the responsibility falls on ADOR and HYBE.”
NewJeans Haerin.
"We have not violated our exclusive contract and have given our best in all our activities, so we do not need to pay any penalty fees, rather, it is ADOR & HYBE who should be paying the penalties"

They Will Fight to Use “NewJeans” Name
And most importantly, the members will continue fighting to use the name “NewJeans.” After all, the name’s trademark and copyright still belong to ADOR and HYBE. So, the possibility of the 5 members maintaining the name remains unclear.
“For now, the five of us may be unable to use the name NewJeans, no matter what we want.
But one thing will never change—the essence of who we are as the five members of NewJeans. And we have no intention of giving up the name NewJeans.
It might seem like a trademark or branding issue to some, but for us, it’s much more than that. The name represents everything we’ve built together since our first meeting. Therefore, we will keep working hard to make sure we fully secure the rights to the name NewJeans.”
NewJeans Hyein.
HYBE No Longer “Believe in Music”!
Furthermore, NewJeans highlighted HYBE’s mistreatments against not only the members but also NewJeans’ staff. They also claimed that HYBE no longer believes in music and only pursues money and profits, even resorting to harassment and manipulations.
“We faced mistreatment not just towards us, but also including our staff. Countless pretentions and contradictions, deliberate miscommunications, and manipulation regarding multiple areas.
A company that no longer has any sincerity in the art and music it’s creating, and is rather fixated on appearing like a well-working company despite only having thoughts about making money and having no conscience about the negative effect they create through their non-authentic means.
This is not the type of work ethic we respect or want to be a part of, and continuing to work under a company with no intention of protecting NewJeans would only do us harm.
That is why we, the five of us, have agreed to leave the ADOR. And for us to clearly express ourselves before misleading information is released and to abandon this, we have chosen to hold an emergency press conference today.”
NewJeans Hanni.
“on appearing like a well working company despite only having thoughts about making money and don't have any conscience about the negative effect they create through their non authentic means this is not the type of work ethic we respect no one to be a part of..”

NewJeans Wants to Continue Working with Min Heejin
During the press conference, NewJeans also revealed their wishes to continue working with Min Heejin.
“We hope to continue working with CEO Min Heejin if possible.
As mentioned, we hope to have a positive working relationship with CEO Min Heejin in the future. However, we don’t have any specific messages to convey to her.”
NewJeans Minji.
NewJeans Hyein.
“We haven’t had any separate discussions with CEO Min Heejin. However, we believe that the CEO will probably share the same wishes as us.”

No Plans for Upcoming Albums and Tours Yet
And one of the most important details in NewJeans press conference summary is the statement discrepancy between ADOR and NewJeans.
While ADOR claimed that the company had planned for upcoming concerts and tours for NewJeans, the members revealed that they did not have any plans for future releases or concerts.
“We haven’t made any plans for upcoming albums or tours.
Moving forward, we’ll keep discussing how we can create the kind of music we truly want to make.”
NewJeans Minji.
Finally, as NewJeans moves forward, it seems that they’re more determined than ever to stay true to their music and their fans. And despite all the hurdles, they’re ready to take on new challenges and create music that reflects who they really are.
