NewJeans Returns with Bouncy Song and Makes You Scream OMG

After dropping the pre-release single Ditto last month, NewJeans officially returns with their first single album, OMG. Following the strategy of quantity over quality, the 5-piece group has grown from complete unknowns to Kpop megastars.

OMG continues to carve out the group sound with creative and unique combinations. NewJeans first single album mixes hip-hop, R&B, UK garage, and trap to create something colorful and springy.

While their pre-release single, Ditto, easily worms into our brains, OMG seems struggling to find its addictive hook. Yet, the catchiest moment on OMG occurs during the call-and-response pre-chorus.

NewJeans OMG Music Video

The whole OMG music video is unique. It starts with NewJeans members gathering in an asylum hall, with one member sharing about her being an iPhone. The narrative in the beginning of the song reminds what happens to us. Oftentimes, in real life, we sink ourselves to our smartphones and forget our surroundings. Moreover, we unconsciously confuse ourselves between what people say about us and who we are.

However, some Kpop enthusiasts complain about why they use asylum for their first single album music video. Some fans defend that it might be their concept to bring mental health issues happening to young people nowadays. Previously, in Ditto, the mysterious character also has a mental health issue that makes her delusional.

Anyhow, the music video has surpassed 8.5 million views and became #2 on Trending for music on YouTube in one day. Additionally, along with OMG music video, NewJeans also drop two versions of the performance video where we can learn the full choreography of the song.
