Behind all the controversy happening at the Korea Grand Music Awards 2024, there’s another one that’s even resulted in more fans’ disappointment: a failed collaboration between Kpop new generation groups NewJeans and ZEROBASEONE.
On November 25, Edaily reported revealed that the groups were supposed to have a collaboration performance at the KGMA 2024. Unfortunately, due to all the disputes with HYBE and the group’s intention to leave the company, the collaboration was ultimately scrapped.
The report also mentioned that ZEROBASEONE was one of the many idols mentioned in HYBE’s problematic “Weekly Industry Report.” And since NewJeans is still part of the company at the moment, a collaboration between the two groups will only create more possible issues and controversy. Therefore, they decided not to continue with the plan.
But is it really?
“One behind-the-scenes detail from the first Korea Grand Music Awards (KGMA) held on the 16th is that NewJeans had discussed performing a collaborative stage with ZEROBASEONE on that day.

However, since ZEROBASEONE was one of the teams mentioned in HYBE’s Music Industry Report, there were concerns that sharing a stage might cause complications or disrupt the event.
Therefore, after careful consideration, they ultimately decided to cancel the collaboration.

While the report did not particularly mention who was responsible for the cancelation, rumors began circulating on the internet and social media that it was NewJeans who decided not to pursue the collab.
Reports believe that NewJeans decided to cancel the KGMA 2024 collaboration stage performance with ZEROBASEONE to actually protect the group from all the possible issues involving HYBE and NewJeans. Not to mention, the KGMA 2024 was precisely when NewJeans expressed their alleged disbandment speech.
Therefore, by canceling the collaboration stage, ZEROBASEONE will never suffer from any collateral damage from whatever happens with NewJeans at the KGMA 2024. Hence, the public believes that NewJeans is protecting the group.
