It has only been a few hours after JYP new girl group, NMIXX released their debut single MV, “O.O”, but they have to face plagiarism controversy accusations of many other previous groups, including ATEEZ and aespa.
JYP New Girl Group NMIXX Faces Plagiarism Accusations Following their “O.O” & “TANK” Debut MV
JYP Entertainment new girl group, NMIXX, has been receiving huge spotlight from the Korean entertainment industry even before the company announced its members. From their sold-out “Blind Package”, pre-debut videos when they were still JYPn, and full member announcement, NMIXX was believed to be another super rookie who will create a breakthrough in the Kpop industry.
That is until their debut actually happened.
On February 22, JYP Entertainment new girl group, NMIXX, finally debuted after long-time anticipation with their first single MV “O.O”. With their new music genre called “MIXX pop”, JYP new septet girl group showcased their outstanding talent in almost ALL aspects, including dancing, vocal, group dynamic, and visual.
However, in just a few hours after the group debuted, many fans realized that the concept behind NMIXX “O.O” debut MV was far too familiar. That is why not only JYP new girl group, NMIXX, blow up social media with their debut, fans began accusing them of plagiarism controversy from other existing groups, including ATEEZ.
Details of NMIXX Alleged Plagiarism Controversy of VARIOUS Existing Groups, Including ATEEZ
There are several details from the whole debut concept of JYP new girl group, NMIXX, that faced plagiarism controversy accusations of previous groups such as ATEEZ and aespa from the Kpop enthusiasts. From scenes, music, and even their signature were similar to some of the existing Kpop groups. Here are some of the details.
NMIXX Debut Concept is Oddly Similar to ATEEZ
First and foremost, the most visible detail about JYP new girl group, NMIXX, that made them face plagiarism controversy is how much their debut concept is similar to ATEEZ.
The NMIXX debut concept said that the girls were taking the first step towards an unknown world where the boundary between the sea and sky was broken. Hence, JYP Entertainment used various pirate-related words such as “set sail” and “voyage towards utopia. However, this concept is not really brand-new because apparently, another existing group had created a breakthrough with such a concept before: ATEEZ.
Now wtf is this?? Pretty sure the jyp staff working on nmixx bought every single ateez album and the diaries and thought no one would notice bc this whole shit literally screams ateez :/ pic.twitter.com/FsvRof7M8z

In 2018, ATEEZ released their single, “Pirate King” which started their whole universe of pirates and voyages. By becoming one with the ocean, ATEEZ was ready to raise their anchor, be whatever they wanted, and set sail to a new universe, somewhere on the horizon.
While many other Kpop groups such as Everglow had also used the same pirate theme, they managed to create an original concept of their own. Therefore, it is truly surprising for fans how much NMIXX and ATEEZ concepts are alike, especially knowing the new girl group came from one of the top four Kpop companies, JYP Entertainment.
Various Scenes from NMIXX “O.O” & “TANK” Debut MV Are Similar to Multiple ATEEZ MV
And as if proving the plagiarism controversy, there are various scenes from NMIXX “O.O” and “TANK” debut MV that was surprisingly similar to ATEEZ. And not just one, but multiple ATEEZ MVs.
First was the pinkish sky and pirate ship in JYP new girl group, NMIXX “O.O” debut MV was too similar from the one in ATEEZ “Illusion” MV. That is why fans jokingly mentioned that ATEEZ had been traveling too far that they ended up visiting a new girl group music video.
Look what I found on tt yall 😭 I guess this explains why 😀💃🏻#ATEEZ #Nmixx pic.twitter.com/r5uXP1UBb8

Secondly, some scenes from NMIXX “O.O” and “TANK” debut MV were way too identical with ATEEZ previous “Turbulence” and “Don’t Stop” MV. And it makes fans wonder whether JYP Entertainment really plagiarized the whole thing.
Identical Characteristics to LOONA MV Details
Furthermore, some of the characteristics on NMIXX New Frontier: Declaration video apparently has identical characteristics with details from LOONA MVs.
NMIXX Jiwoo Signature is Similar to TREASURE Jungwoo
Next, a fan also pointed out that the signature of NMIXX member Jiwoo is almost identical to TREASURE member, Jungwoo. While nothing is certain whether JYP Entertainment or Jiwoo herself created the signature, the similarity is certainly uncanny.
jiwoo from NMIXX and jeongwoo from TREASURE Signature are the same (keep in mind jeongwoo from treasure created his in 2020) pic.twitter.com/ru5NSvXVQh

“MIXX Pop” Music Concept is Similar to aespa
Previously, JYP Entertainment announced that their new girl group, NMIXX, will debut with feature a brand-new concept of music called “MIXX Pop”. They define the new music genre as a combination of multiple genres blended into one original music concept.
However, after NMIXX released their debut single, “O.O” and its MV, fans started realizing that the concept of “MIXX Pop” is not original after all. That is because the music concept of NMIXX “O.O” debut single seems to be experimental, and many other existing Kpop groups have done it before, including Stray Kids and aespa.
i think jyp tried to copy aespa’s song structure for nmixx but failed because what the fuck is this
— sasha 💘 (@blooathens) February 22, 2022
the song has weird transition between two conflicting song genre in one song
I’ll be real honest nmixx debut song sounded like it was trying hard to pull off the aespa music structure so it kinda failed tho it’s too early to judge it might be that song that don’t sound great at first but later on you’ll be jamming to it
— jei (@yonghongduo) February 22, 2022
What’s more, at the same time as NMIXX “O.O” and “TANK” debut release, aespa “Next Level” became a trending topic. That is because fans believe that these two songs have extremely similar musical structures.
NMIXX: Promising Talented New Girl Group with Poor Treatment from JYP Entertainment
At the end of the day, fans also mentioned that it is definitely NOT NMIXX fault to face plagiarism controversy accusations for “O.O” debut single. After all, NMIXX is an outstanding new girl group full of talented and extraordinary members with a promising future.
Btw no one is attacking the girls so the jyp stans who are making it look like we’re hating on the girls, calm your tits down. We’re defending ateez as we should bc this is way too identical to just be a mere “coincidence” bc of same production team. pic.twitter.com/7HowWdSjTM
— kel ★ semi ia (@jwyfe4er) February 22, 2022
However, due to their company’s poor choices and lack of research, NMIXX had to debut with criticism and plagiarism controversy instead of praises and admiration. And it’s all thanks to JYP Entertainment.
I feel bad for nmixx. I know it’s not their fault, but like what the fuck jyp. From Monsta X, ateez, loona, enhypen, aespa, nct??? Seriously?? Creative thought has left the building. #JYP_해명해_사과해_인정해 pic.twitter.com/PXVILAEVfD

A new girl group wow they are so Beautiful! ☺️☺️☺️
JYP Entertainment so money hungry they more concerned about product placement of their sponsor in then mv then giving people a decent song and an original mv, not just basically copy and paste off another group!
the plagiarism is more than evident and does not concern only the scenes of the MV. the storyline, the concept and the visual of ateez have been completed plagiarized. thanks for talking about it
As we all are well informed, this is not the only time JYPE plagiarized before, but JYPE has been caught red-handed on plagiarized other artists too. It is little known to the fact that, JYPE has already let out a statement on 2020, JUN 3, which was they apologized for their action and promised to never did the same thing again. Unfortunately, JYPE did not keep their promises and later plagiarized and copied other artists content, concept, theme, and storyline. It is not only the concept and the content of the MV look alike and having tons of similarity with ILLUSION, which was directed by FLIPEVIL, but many has claimed is that the choreography of NMIXX at the start of the MV was exactly with the same with the one in ATEEZ, debut song, PIRATE KING.
ATEEZ fans, ATINY have been pointing a lot that the agency itself has taken a little too many concept from the righteous owner of the property; Eden-ary, KQ ENTERTAINMENT, and ATEEZ. As we all known, a copyright infringement will be taken seriously after an entity decided to be ignorant towards the notice. But as far from the horizon, KQ ENTERTAINMENT haven't release a statement nor a notice regarding the suprise event.
According to the law of Copyright Act of 1957 and the sections 107 and 198, CDPA;
°It gives the creators of literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works the right to control the ways in which their material may be used.
°A person commits an offence who—
•makes an article specifically designed or adapted for making copies of a particular copyright work
• has such an article in his possession,
knowing or having reason to believe that it is to be used to make infringing copies for sale or hire or for use in the course of a business.
2A; A person (“P”) who infringes copyright in a work by communicating the work to the public commits an offence if P—(a)knows or has reason to believe that P is infringing copyright in the work, and(b)either—(ii)knows or has reason to believe that communicating the work to the public will cause loss to the owner of the copyright, or will expose the owner of the copyright to a risk of loss.
2B; For the purposes of subsection —(a)“gain” and “loss”—(ii)include any such gain or loss whether temporary or permanent, and(b)“loss” includes a loss by not getting what one might get.
(3)Where copyright is infringed (otherwise than by reception of a communication to the public)—(a)by the public performance of a literary, dramatic or musical work, or(b)by the playing or showing in public of a sound recording or film,
any person who caused the work to be so performed, played or shown is guilty of an offence if he knew or had reason to believe that copyright would be infringed.
ATINY, have been trending the tags worldwide; #JYP_표절논란_해명해

#해적이_해적질_당함
#JYP_해적에게_해적질

And ask for a statement release regarding the event.
We, Atiny, are waiting for the statement release and apologize letter for KQ ENTERTAINMENT, EDEN-ARY, and ATEEZ.
Them trying to say a medley style of song is original is laughable. Specially when they do it so poorly and every other aspect of the group is some other groups concept.
Only thing original is the girls themselves. Shame on JYPE.
I may be not an ATINY, MY or any of the fandoms..
But I really detest plagiarism.
JYP needs to revise the concept, really!
How stupid 😐 just a fake failed copy of aespa, red velvet and the other groups! Does this sh..t even have any meaning or concept? Did you just see they hilarious photoshoot for concept? They didn't even do a retush for their copy sh..t picture 😐 they even copy aespa style in stupid sh...ty way!
