Los Angeles-based artist NVIY is set to return to the spotlight. Her latest single, “Infected,” is scheduled for release on March 27, 2026. This marks an exciting new chapter for the Asian American artist, following the success of her 2025 debut, “Yours, eternally”. While her debut introduced listeners to a “dreamy yet emotional” indie-pop sound that explored themes of mortality and romantic loyalty, this new track sees NVIY leaning further into a darker, more deliberate R&B atmosphere.
“Infected”: A Song Born from a Fever

The inspiration for “Infected” is as visceral as the music itself. While “Yours, eternally” was inspired by the classic tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, “Infected” was written while NVIY was physically sick with the flu. She took those feelings of physical exhaustion and delirium and channeled them into a metaphor for a consuming, almost dangerous love.
The track is built on a foundation of deep bass and synths. “Infected” starts with sparse verses that feel almost still—much like the incubation period of a virus. As the song progresses, it moves like a fever that won’t break. By the time the chorus arrives, the sound deepens and the vocals become more present. The line “infected with your love” feel less like a poetic sentiment and more like a medical diagnosis. The song eventually hits its peak during the bridge, which NVIY describes as the most chaotic moment on the track, representing the point where the infection takes over completely.
The Power of the Independent Artist

What makes NVIY’s rise particularly compelling is her commitment to remaining a truly independent artist. Coming from a professional background in design, she approaches music with what she calls “strategic creativity”. She isn’t just the face of the project; she is the writer, producer, and mixer of her own music.
For NVIY, this DIY philosophy is the only way her work feels authentically hers. She has spoken about the freedom that comes with independence—the ability to experiment, fail, and get back up again without outside pressure. “There’s a sort of freedom in falling,” she noted in a previous interview, emphasizing that the creative journey is about finding a sound that is uniquely her own. This independence extends to her visual storytelling as well, as she directs her own music videos to ensure they align perfectly with her sonic vision.
Visualizing the Infection

The music video for “Infected” follows the same symbolic logic as the song’s structure. It opens with NVIY wrapped in white fabric within a glass environment, representing the incubation of a virus. As the “fever” of the song takes hold, the visuals transition into a deep, saturated red.
In these scenes, she is shown tangled with a statue that represents her lover, mirroring lyrics like “I’m so tangled up in danger” and “you’re my poison and life”. The video ends on a haunting note, with the statue standing alone in a vast expanse of red fabric. It leaves the viewer to wonder if the narrator was finally consumed by the infection or if she simply moved on after the fever broke.
“Infected” will be available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify and SoundCloud, starting at midnight on March 27.
