On September 5, Kpop boy group ONEUS made a comeback with their 8th mini album ‘MALUS’ featuring ‘Same Scent’ as the title track. The album showcases the richness of the group and undeviatingly topping charts as soon as its release. ‘MALUS’ debuted at #5 on the worldwide iTunes album chart and landed at #8 on the European iTunes album chart.
ONEUS 8th Mini Album ‘MALUS’ Worth Checking Out Tracklist
Title Track – ‘Same Scent’
Somehow, the title track of ONEUS 8th mini album ‘Same Scent’ reminds us of another song released two years ago, ‘A Song Written Easily.’ The music and melody seem similar as if the two songs are a series of stories.
Even more, ONEUS track ‘Same Scent’ lyrics talk about being brokenhearted and hardly moving on. It is not surprising as ONEUS members, Leedo and Ravn, took part in writing both ‘Same Scent’ and ‘A Song Written Easily’ lyrics.
The difference between the two songs is that ‘Same Scent’ sounds more mature. In addition, the music video itself has grown to be more aesthetic and sensual. The juxtaposition of the sets gives the ‘Same Scent’ music video a different touch, where we can witness the sweetness as well as the sensual sides of ONEUS.
Not only that, the contrast between the airiness of the song and the chorus is quite profound, showing the real ability of Ravn, Seoho, Leedo, Keonhee, Hwanwoong, and Xion.
“내 몸이 기억해, ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy
Ayy, ayy, ayy
Remember your sce-e-e-e-ent
너와 같은 향기”
ONEUS ‘MALUS’ B-side Tracks
The title track is not always the best song in Kpop albums. However, we might love the B-side tracks more than the title track. In ONEUS’s newest album, ‘MALUS,’ the B-side tracks are also worth checking out.
Intro: EDEN
The intro track of ‘MALUS’ conveniently makes TO MOON (ONEUS fandom) craving for more. The music, vocals, and raps of ‘EDEN’ hits differently. We can’t stop repeating the line, “We’re gonna reach for Eden,” from this track.
STUPID LOVE
Those who love the ‘rock version’ of ONEUS might find ‘STUPID LOVE’ more compelling. The drumline, guitar-led chorus, and guitar-meets-vocals intensity particularly deliver the combative energy as in ONEUS debut track ‘Valkyrie.’
Gravitation
‘Gravitation’ slows everything down with an acoustic guitar in the beginning. Moreover, ‘Gravitation’ is definitely a simply breathtaking fan song. The sentimental can be felt when it reaches to chorus:
“그 순간 그때 널 만날 수 있게 되면
아마도 기적과 같은 일이 아닐까”(When I can meet you at that moment
Maybe it’s like a miracle)
Mermaid
‘Mermaid’ gives a brighter light to the richness of ‘MALUS.’ The slap bass and synth, combined with ONEUS’ caressing vocals, bring back the lighthearted feelings of how fun love can be. Likewise, the track talks in the sweetest way about spending time with loved ones.
“You’re my mermaid, 빠져들어
We could be together”
FULL MOON
To summarize ‘MALUS,’ ONEUS gives us one last track, ‘FULL MOON,’ with its oozing music and lyrics. As the final track, ONEUS doesn’t matter to fall deeper into the moonlight while the black-rose-like scents take them whole no matter the consequences.
Overall, ONEUS 8th album ‘MALUS’ is one of the finest releases in September 2022 that is pleasant to listen to. So, which track in ‘MALUS’ is your favorite?
