It has been over too long since BLACKPINK last comeback, and BLINKs are running out of their patience. Some of the fans even believe that if the comeback doesn’t happen soon, BLACKPINK might not survive the 7-year curse and will disband for the following reasons. But, of course, it also means that BLACKPINK members will succeed better at their debut as solo artists.
Some Fans Believe BLACKPINK Members Might NOT Survive The 7-Year Curse And Disband – The Reasons?
The 3rd gen most prominent Kpop girl group BLACKPINK has apparently had their comeback long overdue. Since their last comeback in 2020, “How You Like That”, there’s nothing much BLACKPINK members accomplished as an official Kpop group. And fans are running out of their patience. They started fearing that BLACKPINK may NOT survive the 7-year curse and will disband in the near future.
What is the Meaning of Kpop 7-Year Curse?
If you’ve been in the Kpop world since at least the 2nd gen, you will understand that Kpop group members are bound to a certain contract with their agency since they were merely trainees. There were so many challenges Kpop trainees must go through before they actually debut. And even when they finally make it to their debut, it doesn’t always guarantee their future success.
Therefore, when a Kpop group starts booming with a promising future, most entertainment companies will ensure they won’t go anywhere. This was the beginning of the conflict that disbanded TVXQ in 2010, because SM Entertainment decided to bind the group in a 13-year contract following their huge success.
The massive conflict between SM Entertainment and 3 TVXQ members, Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu (JYJ), almost ended their career back then. That is why in 2009, the Korean Fair-Trade Commission issued a new law that regulated the contract for Kpop idols to be SEVEN years maximum.
This regulation is the beginning of the 7-year curse in Kpop. Since most contracts today end in 7 years, there are numerous possibilities that happen after the contract expires.
If the group still shines with imminent success, then the contract will most likely continue. However, there are common cases when the group members go separate ways. Either because the company disbands them or because they believe they can achieve more with their debut as solo artists, especially when the group’s popularity dies down.
Examples of the groups who didn’t survive the 7-year curse in Kpop are 2NE1, Miss A, GFRIEND, and SISTAR.
3 Alleged Reasons BLACKPINK Might Disband with BETTER Solo Debut Career for The Members
BLACKPINK is a 3rd gen Kpop girl group that debuted on August 8, 2016, under YG Entertainment. It means that due to the law and regulation, their contract will most likely expire in 2023.
Naturally, we sincerely hope that BLACKPINK will successfully renew their contract and continue promoting as a group. After all, BLACKPINK and its members are among the pioneers that open the Kpop path to the international audience.
However, realizing how YG Entertainment has been treating their activities as a group lately, fans started fearing that BLACKPINK might not survive the 7-year curse and will possibly disband after the contract ends. Here are the alleged reasons.
1. Signs and Comments from Jisoo’s Interview
The first alleged reason why fans believe that BLACKPINK might not survive the 7-year curse and disband soon is because of Jisoo’s recent comments.
On May 27, BLACKPINK was the first Kpop girl group to join prominent Rolling Stone magazine in an exclusive interview. During the interview, BLACKPINK member Jisoo gave out signs that had concerned some BLINK fans.
Jisoo usually doesn’t express things too much, even when she’s upset. However, in the recent Rolling Stone interview, she admitted that she was tired and relieved that they hadn’t started working on their choreography for BLACKPINK comeback due to her injured leg.
Along with the sudden revelation of her fatigue, Jisoo also stated that being a celebrity actually “doesn’t resonate much” with her. That is why even after her popularity skyrocketing all these years, she still doesn’t feel she’s a “world star”.
With these comments, some fans praised Jisoo for being such a humble figure in the dazzling Kpop industry. However, others also think that it may be signs that Jisoo was only performing out of a sense of responsibility all this time. These fans are concerned that it was not her sense of passion, and she may feel burdened about it.
Hence, they are worried that when BLACKPINK contract with YG expires, Jisoo will choose to leave the company.
#JISOO: My mom and dad are proud of me, but I don’t feel like a world star. I’d go to see a play with friends, and they’d say, “Can you move around like this? You’re @Blackpink!” Others say all the time, “Hey, this is a huge deal!”

2. BLACKPINK Members Are Way Too Successful in Solo Career
BLACKPINK members have indeed remarkable qualities as an individual. There is no doubt that Jennie, Rosé, Jisoo, and Lisa are among the finest artists in the international music industry. That is why all four BLACKPINK members have wonderful careers as individuals. And they might be way too successful in it.
This huge success in BLACKPINK members careers in solo debut may not be a good sign for the group. Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa has proven their success as solo singers with ‘Solo,‘ ‘-R-,’ and ‘LALISA.’ Meanwhile, Jisoo still has to wait to prove her skills and debut as a solo singer, but has proven her prominent acting skills in ‘Snowdrop.’
After all, while the members are fully booked for their individual activities and dazzling achievements, BLACKPINK is the only girl group that has spent the whole 1 year and 8 months without releasing any music together, deviating far away from their original identity as a Kpop girl group.
Due to this sign, some fans are anxious that BLACKPINK members will not survive the 7-year curse and might disband for better solo career opportunities.
YG debut them as an idol group but turn them into models/content creators over the years

With Jisoo being the only actress
Renew , Leave as a group, or disband
It hard to guess the outcome here
Blackpink is a music group and supposedly not a group of models. If yg continues with the mismanaged And doesn’t release music I don’t see the point for them to continue activities as a group. Going solo will be better for their music career

Blinks are in denial. They’re social media influencers now where they make more money than sing. The members will always do what’s more profitable, not what fans want. Get over it, Blinks. Neither the members nor YGE care if you want a comeback.

3. The New Girl Group of YG Entertainment
Finally, the last among the most convincing reasons why BLACKPINK might not survive the 7-year curse and disband in the near future is because of the upcoming new girl group of YG Entertainment.
YG Entertainment has been highly praising their upcoming new girl group for almost 2 years. Previously, the CEO of YG Food even mentioned that the new girl group is the equivalent of 10 BLACKPINK Jennies.
Then, reports circulated on the social media that the main reason why BLACKPINK 2022 comeback was long overdue was that BLACKPINK “5th member” Teddy was too busy preparing for the new girl group, Baby Monster. Therefore, fans begin to worry that YG Entertainment will disband BLACKPINK with the new girl group, Baby Monster, debut later.
After all, the same thing happened previously with 2NE1. As a result, YG Entertainment disbanded them and focused more on BLACKPINK.
On top of that, amid their long hiatus period, various promising new girl groups have debuted during this time. For example, aespa from SM, NMIXX from JYP, IVE from Starship, and LE SSERAFIM from Source Music have become the talk of the Kpop music industry due to their premium qualities and promising future. That is why BLACKPINK’s long hiatus is starting to make the fans anxious.
BLACKPINK as a Group or Solo Debut?
Indeed, these reasons are convincing enough that BLACKPINK might not survive the 7-year curse and disband for better solo debut opportunities. However, it doesn’t mean we can just erase any hope that BLACKPINK will continue promoting.
Hence, fans genuinely hope YG Entertainment will release BLACKPINK comeback very soon. And it is not just to ease their minds but also to make a more promising stance for BLACKPINK in the Kpop music industry.
At the same time, do you think it is possible if BLACKPINK will do much better as a group under a different entertainment company?
All I’m gonna say is yg better come out with an official update pertaining to BLACKPINK’s comeback and stick to the timeline given bc I’m tired of all the wishy washiness. We’ve waited long enough to at least get that as fans.

this is really unfair. yg would never give us this much content from blackpink. he’s paying attention to his bgs he gave them a comeback and posters, and what do we get? NOTHING. blackpink deserves a better company istg.
