Starring Bae Suzy and Jung Eun Chae, the new Korean drama “Anna” offers you a new perspective of story and life drama. As you can see in the newly released teasers and release date, “Anna” Korean drama will truly become one of this year’s masterpieces, and it’s NOT without reasons.
5 CRUCIAL Reasons Why You MUST Watch “Anna”, Starring Bae Suzy and Jung Eun Chae
Previously, we have discussed about “Anna” Korean drama trivia facts and why it managed to attract both Bae Suzy and Jung Eun Chae to join as its main cast. Today, we will give you 5 most CRUCIAL reasons why you MUST truly add “Anna” new Korean drama into your watchlist.
1. Bae Suzy’s First-Ever Duality Role
Ever since her first acting debut in Dream High (2011), Bae Suzy has shown tremendous improvement from the girl with a straight face to a successful idol actress. Over the last 10 years, Suzy proved to anyone who doubted her acting skills that she’s far more than just a pretty face.
Today, her determination to prove herself seems to take on another level. That is because in her new “Anna” Korean drama, it will be the first time for Bae Suzy to perform a role that shows two completely different sides that are in total opposite of each other.
In “Anna” new Korean drama, Bae Suzy will take on two opposite roles: Yoo Mi and Anna. Yoo Mi is your usual ill-fated female lead living her tragic life by living on ramen on a daily basis and working all sorts of jobs to pay her bills. On the other hand, Anna is an elegant, high-class “princess” with graceful strides and complicated life. One day, the tragic Yoo Mi suddenly lives her life as the high-class lady, Anna.
Knowing that “Anna” will be Suzy’s first time playing two opposite roles, we will be able to observe and evaluate her performance closely. Therefore, it will be fascinating to watch how Suzy will make it in her new Korean drama later.
Do you think she will be able to pull it off?
2. Centered on Two Powerful Female Characters
Having a strong female lead that doesn’t just submit to the will of the male character seems to be trending lately. In Coupang Play’s new Korean drama, “Anna”, you will not only witness one but TWO of such characters in the leading roles.
In addition to Suzy’s Yoo Mi and Anna, the other powerful female character worthy of anticipating is Hyun Joo, played by “Pachinko” actress Jung Eun Chae.
Hyun Joo is the daughter of a wealthy family. Her father owns a high-class gallery, and she enjoys her superior way of living very much. However, unlike other daughters of chaebol family who immediately submit to the family’s way of life, Hyun Joo lives on her own principle. And having her side by side with both Yoo Mi and Anna later is a sight you just CANNOT miss!
3. A Thrilling Storyline Full of Conflicts and Complexities
Next, one of the most crucial reasons why the new Korean drama, “Anna”, should be on top of your watchlist is because of its complex storyline.
Unlike other Korean dramas that raise the story of dual life, the storyline of “Anna” doesn’t have a convincing basis for why the character must live her life as someone else. That is because the reason why Yoo Mi has to live as Anna was due to her small lie. And this lie was based on her will to change her life’s course.
On top of that, instead of battling with her conscience in living someone else’s life, the teasers mentioned that Yoo Mi would instead develop a Ripley Syndrome.
Ripley Syndrome is an antisocial personality disorder, causing a person to believe in the lies they are living. A person who is suffering from Ripley Syndrome will assume all the lies they originally tell themselves as the truth. And eventually, they will believe nothing other than the primary foundation of the assumed reality they had told themselves. They then turn into a narcissist who lacks empathy and are full of denial of their negative qualities.
It is truly exciting to see how the story unfolds based on the main character who develops such syndrome. We might also have to prepare for severe withdrawal symptoms ourselves when the drama finishes airing.
4. Suzy’s Promise to Deliver a New Side of Her
During her past dramas and existing performance, Bae Suzy has continuously improved herself in many different characters. However, Coupang Play “Anna” will be the very first time for Bae Suzy to perform such conflicting characters like Yoo Mi and Anna.
Indeed, it will be another challenge for Bae Suzy to play Yoo Mi’s character with such deep inner conflicts and complexities. However, taking on this challenge is the main reason why Bae Suzy was attracted to the script in the first place. Therefore, the actress promised to deliver her best and utmost performance.
That is why Bae Suzy acting in “Anna” new Korean drama is a historic performance you can never miss!
“[I portrayed] a unique character that is not easy to define as an actress. I will show a new side to me through ‘Anna’ since the drama’s distinct feature is that the characters’ changing emotions will stand out amidst a situation that continuously changes over time.”
Bae Suzy.
5. A Brand-New Perspective of Life
Finally, with such complexities in the characters and storyline, Coupang Play new Korean drama, “Anna” will give us a new refreshing perspective of life.
Along with the conflicting personality of Yoo Mi, we can also observe and acquire new understanding from Hyun Joo. That is because unlike your usual high-class female characters, Hyun Joo is described to be a person who treats others with neither kindness nor malice.
This belief roots in the mindset that Hyun Joo is holding herself higher than anybody else. As a result, the subtle but tense relationship between Hyun Joo and Anna (or Yoo Mi) will be one of the most thrilling to anticipate. And that is especially when Hyun Joo realized that Anna was her former employee at her father’s gallery, Yoo Mi.
Let’s see whether Hyun Joo will choose to become Yoo Mi’s accomplice or go all out to expose her true identity.
