“Hospital Playlist” Spin Off Failed to Secure Release Date AGAIN!
The release date of “Hospital Playlist” spin off, “Resident Playbook” is getting more and more uncertain. Its production company, CJ ENM, even proclaimed that they had been in a difficult situation with almost no way out.
On June 13, Korean media outlet Herald Economy reported that “Resident Playbook” Korean drama starring Go Yoon Jung might have to be canceled eventually.
The “Hospital Playlist” spin off had repeatedly failed to secure a release date due to the controversy and doctor’s strike. Hence, the production company was not able to see any way out.
Originally, “Resident Playbook” was scheduled to air in May as the follow-up to tvN’s weekend drama “Queen of Tears.” However, due to the growing public resentment towards the medical community, the broadcast has been indefinitely postponed.
“Resident Playbook” Might Be Canceled
Due to the backlash in the medical community over the expansion of medical school quotas, the broadcast was already delayed, and the growing public resentment caused by the doctors’ strike is making it increasingly difficult to air the series.
Moreover, industry insiders even revealed that broadcasting “Resident Playbook” might be entirely impossible.
If the company insists in airing the series, all the parties involved will most likely face severe criticism for “glorifying doctors.” After all, as a promising spin-off of “Hospital Playlist,” this Korean drama pays more attention to the lives and friendships of professors and residents in a general hospital, who care for patients despite difficult circumstances.
And as of today, the South Korean residents are still on strike. They have reportedly been ignoring their duties and neglecting the patients due to the government’s plans to increase medical school quotas.
That is why the public is furious as the series reflects nothing in reality. Hence the “glorifying doctors” accusations.
“Resident Playbook” Failed to Secure Release Date Due to the Escalating Doctor’s Strike in South Korea
Meanwhile, with the Korean Medical Association declaring a full strike on the June 18. The situation then rapidly escalated as more hospitals, especially large ones, decided to the strike. Severe patients have been expressing despair and anger towards the striking doctors, saying they turning away from their oath and driving patients to death.
At the same time, professors at Seoul National University Hospital and Seoul National University College of Medicine have decided to go on an indefinite strike starting from June 17, excluding essential departments such as emergency rooms and intensive care units.
Other major hospitals are also reportedly joining the strike and are discussing the duration of their participation.
That is why the public is even more furious as of today.
