On April 5, tvN announced the main cast of the upcoming fantasy K-drama Sparkling Watermelon. The upcoming drama will have director Song Jung Hyun of When My Love Blooms and Mental Coach Jegal as the director. And writer Jin Soo Wan of The Moon Embracing the Sun and Kill Me, Heal Me will write the script.

The upcoming Sparkling Watermelon Korean drama is a fantasy coming-of-age drama series. It will follow the story of a child with a deaf adult (CODA) who has a gift for music. He time-travels through a mysterious music shop and crash lands into an unknown space. He then forms a band called “Watermelon Sugar” with other youth.

Citing from Sports Chosun, the production team shared,

“We hope that Sparkling Watermelon will be a drama series that can relate and communicate with all the youth of the past, present and future. Please anticipate the actors’ performances that will bring more sparkles to the characters.”

The lead of The Secret Romantic Guesthouse, Ryeoun, will take the role of Eun Gyeol. He is a CODA and the only one who can hear in his deaf family. Although he displays as the perfect model student during the daylight, he lives a double life as a guitarist of a band at night. In the upcoming drama, the rising actor will demonstrate his versatile acting skills by playing a CODA and a youth who is passionate about music.

The Twenty-five Twenty-one star, Choi Hyun Wook, will play the role of the fiery Lee Chan. Having grown up with older university students in his grandmother’s boarding house, Lee Chan is filled with the vibes of Generation X. Lee Chan is determined to conquer the heart of a “goddess” from a local arts high school.

Meanwhile, OASIS star Seol In Ah will play the role of Se Kyung. She is the cello goddess of Seowon Arts High School. With her innocent beauty and elegant aura, Sa Kyung becomes everyone’s muse.

And Shin Eun Soo will play the role of cold and arrogant “ice princess” Chung Ah, who was born deaf. Yet, despite her hardships, she dreams of having a bright life just like Frida Kahlo, who shouts, ‘Long live life.’
