The Rise of Kpop Origin Company, SM Entertainment
It feels like just yesterday that SM Entertainment sent shockwaves through the K-pop community with a string of controversies. Yet, in a remarkably short time, the company not only recovered but soared to even greater heights—especially after the departure of its founding figure, Lee Soo Man.
Following the controversies related to the company’s shares, EXO CBX’s contract, Karina’s dating controversy, and even former NCT member Taeil, SM has truly navigated immensely turbulent waters for the past few years. And still, the company successfully created a monumental milestone with the debut of its largest new girl group after Girls Generation, Hearts2Hearts
But just when it seemed SM Entertainment had reached the pinnacle of its resurgence, the company delivered yet another jaw-dropping moment.
At the grand SMTOWN Live 2025, the company celebrated its 30th anniversary and its long-withstanding thriving in the global entertainment industry.
With the spotlight shining brightly, the company unveiled a dazzling lineup of male trainees with superior visual, singing, and dancing talents. This bold initiative, named SMTR2025, has become a declaration that SM Entertainment is ready to redefine the industry once again.
SM Entertainment to Debut New Boy Group in Second Half of 2025
Today, we now know that the underlying reason why the company suddenly reveals all its hidden aces. It was none other than because SM Entertainment will soon debut a new Kpop idol boy group consisting of these brilliant and promising male trainees—but they will do it in second half of 2025 only.
On January 15, Korea Herald exclusively revealed a report from in industry source that SM Entertainment would soon debut its new Kpop idol boy group in the second half of 2025.
“From what I’ve heard, SM Entertainment is planning to debut a new boy group this year. They haven’t announced the exact date yet, but since preparations usually take around five months, it’s pretty likely we’ll see them debut in the second half of the year.”

Why the Delay to Second Half of 2025?
So, why did SM Entertainment decide to debut this enigmatic new Kpop idol boy group only in the latter half of 2025?
Well, as previously mentioned, it takes approximately 5 months of process to successfully launch a new Kpop group. And with the company busy preparing its grand 30th anniversary celebration, SM Entertainment must postpone the new boy group debut to the second half of 2025.
“SM Entertainment originally planned to debut a new boy group last year, but it seems they postponed it to align with the company’s 30th anniversary this year.
If they had debuted last November, the debut might have been overshadowed by all the preparations for the world tour and the big anniversary concert happening now.
It looks like the timing was adjusted strategically to make a bigger impact.”
