Kpop girl group pioneer SNSD (Girls’ Generation) has just wrapped up their 15th anniversary comeback 2022 with a wonderful performance and spectacular MV of “FOREVER 1”. Unfortunately, the girl group must face a shocking plagiarism issue after SM Entertainment’s failure once again to screen its quality. Check out the following reports about what happened to SNSD and their plagiarism issue.
SNSD Faces Plagiarism Issue for Their 15th Anniversary Comeback 2022 – What REALLY Happened?
After a successful 15th anniversary comeback in 2022 that breaks through their own first-week sales record, SNSD must face a shocking plagiarism issue due to the screening failure of their company, SM Entertainment.
On August 12, a fan began noticing that the emblem appearing in SNSD 15th anniversary comeback MV, “FOREVER 1” was not actually original. According to the fan, SNSD 15th anniversary comeback emblem looks like the one belonging to Tokyo DisneySea.
Not only the emblem looks similar, but they are almost identical!
From the shape, the design, and the arrangement, it was as if both emblems came from the same template design. Moreover, if you placed the number 15 together, you will find that the font used for both emblems is shockingly identical.
SNSD 15th Anniversary Comeback is NOT the First Time!
Due to the plagiarism issue happening to SNSD 15th anniversary comeback 2022, the public once again pointed out SM Entertainment’s failure in the screening process.
Not only that, even when the company is known to be one of the top 4 biggest entertainment companies in South Korea, SM Entertainment is infamous for its inadequacy to protect its artists from plagiarism issue.

I love Girls' Generation more than anything and the Forever 1 MV is INCREDIBLY precious to me.

But to SM Entertainment: Plagiarism for set pieces is really not okay and I'm honestly kind of upset about it.
I will still treasure the MV forever, but still stand against plagarism.
aespa plagiarism issue
Previously, SM Entertainment was notorious for the huge plagiarism issue involving their monster rookie, aespa. In 2020 when aespa first debuted, many fans noticed that the concept of aespa’s “Black Mamba” was eerily similar to most successful virtual girl group, League of Legend’s K/DA.
From the group’s pose formation, design, and details, aespa’s concept was almost identical to K/DA, who debuted under Riot Music in 2018. Some of the scenes in aespa’s “Black Mamba” were even the same as in K/DA’s “Pop/Star”.

NCT 127 plagiarism issue
Then, in 2021, SM Entertainment’s screening failure resulted in dragging NCT 127 to another plagiarism issue.
Director of “FOREVER 1” MV Posted Official Apology for What Happened to SNSD 15th Anniversary Comeback 2022
Finally, after reports of plagiarism issue involving SNSD 15th anniversary comeback 2022 and SM Entertainment, the director of “FOREVER 1” MV decided to personally apologize for the similarity.
“Hello, this is Shin Hee Won. I directed the music video for Girls’ Generation’s “FOREVER 1”.
First of all, I would like to apologize to the members of Girls’ Generation as well as SM Entertainment for causing this controversy over one of the set designs used in the “Forever 1″ music video.”
Shin Hee Won’s apology on Instagram.
In the apology statement, the director admitted that he only just found out that the emblem belongs to Tokyo DisneySea’s 15th anniversary logo. According to the director, he didn’t double-check the emblem’s design when deciding to use it for SNSD “FOREVER 1” MV. He only looked up some references and believed that the current emblem is suitable for SNSD’s concept.
“Since I’ve been contacted about the music video, I’ve been involved in not only planning and directing it but also designing the details of it, like picking out props.
I’m ashamed of myself and regretful that I ended up plagiarizing.
When putting together the set for the group’s 15th-anniversary parade, I looked up inspirations for the number logo design.
I found several references, and when I came across an image I believed suitable, I decided to use it without double-checking the source.
Today, I learned that the design belongs to Disney Japan’s 15th-anniversary logo.”

The director eventually admitted all his mistakes and apologized for causing the plagiarism issue to SNSD, SM Entertainment, and the general public.
Another SM Entertainment’s Screening Failure and Inadequacy to Protect Its Artists from Plagiarism Issue
Indeed, as one of the top 4 biggest entertainment companies in South Korea, SM Entertainment should have had a better system to protect its artists.
Plagiarism issue has been problematic in SM Entertainment for years; up until today, it keeps repeatedly happening to their different artists. That is why fans started to feel tired of the company’s poor management of this issue.
