Song Joong Ki new drama, “Reborn Rich” has been the talk of the town ever since its first episode. However, just as the skyrocketing popularity, apparently, the dissatisfaction and criticisms from Korean viewers towards the popular drama are just as high.
As if the previous issues and controversies were not enough, Korean viewers once again criticized Song Joong Ki’s new drama “Reborn Rich”. After facing issues regarding its disrespectful depiction and false interpretation of Istanbul as well as the overuse of face filters, more issues and complaints are striking Song Joong Ki’s new drama, “Reborn Rich”.
On December 4, multiple Daum articles raised issues regarding scenes and characters in “Reborn Rich” drama. According to the reports, the way Song Joong Ki character Jin Do Joon, conducts his revenge represents a political stance that causes various backlashes.
Along with the severe issues regarding its political stance, the new JTBC drama also faces numerous complaints about a particular scene in Episode 7. Reports mentioned on the same day that there was a particular scene in “Reborn Rich” new drama that viewers wish it didn’t happen because it disrupted the whole immersion in the storyline.
Song Joong Ki “Reborn Rich” Character Faces Backlash for Revenge Method and Political Stance
The first issue came from Daily Sports Korean media, reporting that Korean viewers had been posting complaints about Song Joong Ki’s character in “Reborn Rich”, Jin Do Joon.
According to the report, viewers expressed their concerns on various chatrooms and community bulletin boards right after the broadcast of Episode 7. These complaints are mostly criticizing the revenge method used by the main character after he was reincarnated as Jin Do Joon, a maknae son of the conglomerate family that had murdered him in his previous life.
The complaints and criticism started rising after Jin Do Joon’s remark in “Reborn Rich” Episode 7. The media reported that this remark gives viewers the impression of his left-wing political stance.

Due to this remark, viewers’ opinions turned into a political debate between leftists and rightists. They claimed that Song Joong Ki new drama “Reborn Rich” represents the idealism of socialists and communists who hate the idea of someone passing his wealth and money to his beloved children.
An Unnecessary Love Line Destroying Viewers’ Immersion
The next issue comes from Sports Chosun, reporting complaints about Song Joong Ki love line with Shin Hyun Been in “Reborn Rich” new drama.
Following a seemingly romantic scene in Episode 7, Korean viewers seemed to react negatively towards Song Joong Ki and Shin Hyun Been character love line.
According to the reports, the negative reactions and criticisms started because Shin Hyun Been’s character, Seo Min Young, appearance had been incredibly minor since the start of the drama. Therefore, it is highly unlikely for Jin Do Joon to fall for someone who has almost no importance to the storyline.
Viewers believe it is absurd for Seo Min Young to transform quickly from a minor character appearance into someone who suddenly becomes extremely important to Jin Do Joon in a short time.
Moreover, this love line between Jin Do Joon and Seo Min Young seems unnecessary amidst the massive tension of Sunyang’s succession process. The report stated that although Seo Min Young is the female lead character, viewers feel the drama’s tensions vanishing every time the female character enters the scene.
“Reborn Rich” New Drama Starring Song Joong Ki Rises to Highest Rating
Finally, despite all the criticisms and complaints about “Reborn Rich”, the anticipation and popularity of Song Joong Ki new drama is going through the roof.
In fact, media reported “Reborn Rich” to record constant ratings of over 15%, which is considered exceptional in the Korean drama industry. The latest episode recorded a highest rating of all time at 19,449% according to Newsen. Most importantly, Joy News stated that during the Episode 7 broadcast, the JTBC drama briefly touched 21.8% of viewership ratings in the metropolitan area, which is considered a dream point.
