And finally, at the 75th Cannes Film Festival 2022, two of the most prominent Korean film figures, actor Song Kang Ho and Director Park Chan Wook, came out as the winners and made their country proud.
On May 28 local time, the 75th Cannes Film Festival announced its 2022 winners list. Among the prominent names were “Parasite” and “Broker” actor Song Kang Ho and “Decision to Leave” director Park Chan Wook.

Song Kang Ho: FIRST Korean Best Actor in Cannes History
This year’s Cannes is just exceptional for the South Korean film industry. Not only best idol actress IU has managed to steal all the attention with her fabulous look, actor Song Kang Ho then managed to mark his name in the global movie industry as the FIRST Korean actor to take home the Best Actor title at the 75th Cannes Film Festival 2022.
With almost 30 years of career in the film industry, actor Song Kang Ho finally made ANOTHER brilliant achievement. Not only did he come out as one of the winners, but Song Kang Ho also engraved his name in Cannes Film Festival history by becoming the FIRST Korean to secure the Best Actor title in 2022 for his magnificent performance in the movie “Broker”.
Previously, actor Song Kang Ho was also the FIRST Korean male actor to serve as a member of the Jury at the 74th Cannes Film Festival.
Park Chan Wook: Second Korean Best Director in History
Meanwhile, director Park Chan Wook has also come out as one of the 75th Cannes Film Festival winners in 2022.
As Korea’s proud all-rounder in the film industry, director Park Chan Wook finally secured the Best Director title at the 75th Cannes Film Festival 222. This achievement made Park Chan Ho the second Korean director to take the honor after Im Kwon Taek 20 years ago.
While this may be his first win as Best Director, “Decision to Leave” is his THIRD project to win the Cannes Film Festival. Previously in 2003, Park Chan Wook’s iconic movie “Oldboy” came out as the Grand Prix winner. And in 2009, his movie “Thirst” captivated the jury’s heart and won the Jury Prize.
