Squid Game actor Oh Young Soo is currently having one of the most challenging moments throughout his entire career. After becoming the first Korean actor who took home the Golden Globes trophy, veteran actor Oh Young Soo (78) is facing allegations of sexual harassment during the peak time of his career.

And after being officially indicted of the allegations, the Squid Game actor finally attended his first trial.

On February 3, the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office Criminal Division 2 (Chief Prosecutor Song Jeong Eun) conducted the first court hearing for Squid Game actor Oh Young Soo.

According to Wikitree’s report, actor Oh Young Soo showed up 10 minutes before the trial started. He walked towards Seongnam Public Prosecutors’ Office, head lowered and full of silence. The only time he commented was when reporters asked about his feelings. And he answered by expressing his apology.

However, Oh Young Soo mentioned nothing about the details of his sexual harassment allegations.

Details of Oh Young Soo’s Sexual Harassment Allegations

During the first court hearing, the alleged victim accused Squid Game actor Oh Young Soo of sexual harassment for embracing her by force. Not only that, but according to the victim, Oh Young Soo kissed her on the right cheek without consent while she was typing the front door passcode.

Further in the trial, it was revealed that the sexual harassment allegation happened in September 2017. At the time, both Oh Young Soo and the victim were members of the same theater troupe. Therefore, the victim’s lawyer claimed that actor Oh Young Soo had taken advantage of his seniority and higher position in the troupe to harass the victim repeatedly.

“When my client confronted Mr. O and demanded his apology after the incident, he admitted his wrongs. However, now he’s denying all charges, and my client is thus suffering additional pain.

SQUID GAME Actor Oh Young Soo Rebuttal on the Allegations

On the other hand, Squid Game actor Oh Young Soo rebutted and fully denied the sexual harassment charges.

According to the actor’s legal representative, it is true that the veteran actor took a walk with the alleged victim. He had also visited her house at the time. However, Oh Young Soo’s side disputed that all the charges mentioned were completely false.

“It is true that the defendant went for a walk with the plaintiff at the time. He also walked her home. However, there was no form of harassment involved.
The defendant would therefore like to request for the dismissal of this random case, as well as the dismissal of the prosecution’s indictment charge.”

Once the court hearing concluded, Oh Young Soo also clarified to the reporters about his accusations. The Squid Game actor stated that while he and the victim indeed held hands at the time, Oh Young Soo claimed there was no sexual harassment involved. After delivering the clarification, the actor left the venue.

Strange Accusations?

Finally, in responding to Oh Young Soo sexual harassment accusation, Korean netizens believed that the allegations were strange. That is because while the alleged incident happened in September 2017, the victim’s report came in December 2021.

It took her 6 years to make an official report, and Korean netizens considered it strange that the report appeared after Oh Young Soo made his massive break as a Squid Game actor.
