Netflix is Reportedly Working on SQUID GAME Season 2 and Season 3 Simultaneously
Speaking about the most outstanding Korean drama in history, securing multiple awards, and bringing Korean drama industry into the international stage, Netflix Squid Game will be the first title that comes into the viewers’ minds.
With its iconic theme, dramatic storyline, and unexpected plot twists, Squid Game has dominated Netflix’s top TV show rankings, creating its own franchise with a brand-new universe. Its skyrocketing fame and concept that was one of a kind resulted in high demands for more sequels of Netflix Squid Game.
Squid Game creator and director Hwang Dong Hyuk previously believed that generating another masterpiece in such a short time would be impossible since it took him 12 years to create the fantastic Korean drama. However, he finally yielded and stated that fans had left him no choice but to create a continuation of Netflix Squid Game.
After months since the last update of Squid Game Season 2 and Season 3, the Korean drama finally gets a suspected release date.
On May 16, E-Daily reported that rumors began circulating not only on Netflix Squid Game Season 2 but also its Season 3. According to these rumors, Netflix had already started producing both seasons of the upcoming Squid Game sequels at the same time, and it created massive expectations from global fans.
Why? Because it means that Netflix Squid Game Season 2 and Season 3 release date may come much sooner than we all had expected!
Suspected Production Timeline and Possible Release Date
Previously, an OSEN exclusive report stated that Netflix would produce Squid Game Season 2 and Season 3 at the same time.
OSEN stated on May 16 that there would only be a total of 13 episodes for both seasons of the Squid Game sequel. However, the production team has yet to decide which season will have 6 or 7 episodes.
The report further stated that director Hwang Dong Hyuk had agreed to both seasons simultaneously after an extensive discussion with Netflix. They would reportedly produce all 13 episodes at the same time but release them sequentially based on the storyline.
But on top of everything, multiple sources also stated that Netflix Squid Game had reportedly begun its test filming for the 2nd season. Soon after the test completed, the production team would start filming as early as July.
Finally, since the filming period is expected to span over 10 months for both seasons, it is highly likely that Netflix Squid Game Season 2 and Season 3 release date would be around the second half of 2024.
But aside from its possible release date, what’s most exciting about Netflix Squid Game’s upcoming sequel is that the main storyline would revolve around Seong Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) and The Frontman (Lee Byung Hun).

According to the official, there have been any confirmed details regarding the Korean drama’s specific content. After all, they had only just begun preparing the second season of the drama. Therefore, nothing has been particularly set in stone just yet.
