8 FACTS About the Taeyang and Jimin VIBE – Thanks to Teddy Oppa

The collaboration of two multi-faceted Kpop idols from different generations has shaken the world. As soon as Taeyang and Jimin released their collaboration song, VIBE, Kpop enthusiasts couldn’t move away from their music platforms. Thanks to Teddy Oppa, said Kpop fans, for giving the idea and making this epic collab come true.

1. A New Chapter

Taeyang is known as a multi-faceted idol. His first solo album, Solar, in 2010 made waves, and his second solo album, Rise, in 2014 became the highest charting Kpop album by a soloist on the Billboard 200. And he released his last solo album, White Night, before enlisting in mandatory military service in 2017.

After almost six years, Taeyang is now giving upbeat music for his fans to get up and dance. VIBE is different from his R&B tracks, which Taeyang is known for, and somehow gives the nostalgic yet trendy feelings.

This is a new chapter in Taeyang’s music career after signing with The Black Label.

2. Sunset is the inspiration

Taeyang always carefully thinks about the theme when it comes to a solo album. He prefers a theme that fits the meaning of his name (Taeyang means sun in Korean). For his new solo album, Taeyang thought about the sunset and looked to the sunset for inspiration.

3. The first collaboration project for Taeyang

V.I.P. knows that Taeyang has never done a collaboration project before this. The singer admits that it is his first collaboration with another artist outside his group and labelmates.

However, G-Dragon showed his full support for Taeyang by visiting the music studio.

“He [G-Dragon] would watch the monitor on set, pointing out things here and there and giving me lots of advice.”

4. Taeyang X Jimin was started years ago

The collaboration apparently does not come out of the blue. It all started two years ago when Teddy gave this idea to Taeyang.

“If Jimin and Taeyang come out together with a great song, people would love it.”

Although Teddy said that only briefly and without a specific purpose, Taeyang thought deeply about this.

“He [Teddy] said this to me in passing, but it had a great impact on me. I thought it was a great idea, so I always had it in mind.”

And when Taeyang met Jimin, their conversation naturally led them to go to music studio and make the collaboration come true. It seems like they have been destined to feature in good music.

5. Taeyang has been working on VIBE for two years

VIBE doesn’t pop up instantly. Taeyang needs two years to work on it since his military discharge in 2020.

“I’ve been working on my next album consistently since completing my mandatory military service.”

6. Taeyang and Jimin didn’t choreograph their dance

Despite being great dancers, Taeyang and Jimin decided not to choreograph the dance for VIBE by themselves. They believe that choreography is essential and that they must do it meticulously.

Instead, they received ideas from talented dancers and carefully chose them.

“From all of them, we decided to select choreography from Bailey Sok, a dancer in America.”

7. The choreography is hard!

Both Taeyang and Jimin found the choreography hard to learn at first. For Taeyang, it was his first-time learning choreography for a new solo song since his last release in 2017. Meanwhile, Jimin’s dance style differs from the one he has to do for VIBE.

“We joked to ourselves, like, ‘Are we the weird ones? Or is it because the choreography is really that hard?’ We wanted to do it well, and it took some time for us to get there.”

8. VIBE doesn’t need much time to shine

The VIBE music video raised to #4 on Trending music on YouTube with more than 3.9 million views within 4 hours of its release. Moreover, VIBE debuted straight to #1 on Billboard Hot Trending Songs Weekly Chart prior its release and has entered the top 10 on US iTunes in less than 4 hours.
