The Controversy Behind BABYMONSTER Debut Date
So, what happened to BABYMONSTER, and what’s the controversy behind the YG new girl group debut date?
Repeated Delays
Since its very first announcement, YG new girl group has been at the center of various controversies in the global music industry. That is especially since YG seemed to have reportedly put intentional delays on BABYMONSTER debut date.
In 2020, the initial rumors of YG new girl group first appeared publicly. At the time, fans predicted that the group’s name would be BABYMONSTER or BAEMON, based on the application names circulated online. Also, BLACKPINK Jisoo once revealed that BLACKPINK almost debuted with the name BABYMONSTER.

However, after the rumors went viral, YG seemed to have made no progress with the new girl group until 2021. At the time, more reports appeared that YG Entertainment would launch its new girl group in 2021. This resulted in a spike in YG’s stock prices, showing the promising future of the company.
A MASSIVE Threat to BLACKPINK’s Existence
Unfortunately, YG once again did nothing to follow up on the rumors.
Instead, the presence of YG new girl group, BABYMONSTER, became a massive threat that caused BLACKPINK’s possible disbandment. Aside from the fact that YG is famous for easily neglecting its biggest groups, such as BIGBANG and 2NE1, BLACKPINK’s 5th member, Teddy, had been focusing on the new girl group instead.
Therefore, controversy began spreading that YG Entertainment would soon leave BLACKPINK to disband and focus on BABYMONSTER instead.
Additionally, since YG keeps delaying the debut date of BABYMONSTER, netizens have started losing trust. The announcement even became a joke for South Korean netizens because of the delay.
BABYMONSTER’s existence has been going around since 2020. Today is 2023, and still no debut of YG new girl group.
Controversy Surrounding Its Member
In addition to the company, BABYMONSTER once faced a controversy involving one of its members: Ahyeon.
Ahyeon is the core member of BABYMONSTER. She possesses the highest level of vocal techniques, impressive stage presence, and outstanding leadership among other BABYMONSTER members. Since her first appearance, many have praised her remarkable talent and iconic aptitude. They believed that she could surpass the skills of BLACKPINK members in the future.
Unfortunately, Ahyeon faced a massive controversy during one of her initial performances. She once sang Nicki Minaj’s song, “Feeling Myself”, and dangerously rapped its explicit lyrics, including the forbidden N-word.

As this became an issue when BABYMONSTER was under massive spotlight during its evaluation, many criticized Ahyeon. And after the delay of BABYMONSTER debut date, many have thought that Ahyeon eventually left the group due to this controversy and many other reasons.
The Promising Future of YG New Girl Group
Despite the controversy surrounding YG’s new girl group, BABYMONSTER, they have consistently delivered extraordinary performances.
This is why YG Entertainment stated that the debut date for BABYMONSTER was moved from September to November to enhance quality.
In an official statement, YG Entertainment indicated that the delay in BABYMONSTER’s debut date was due to the title track.
“We diligently considered the choice of the title song to provide you with the best outcome.
Consequently, this led to a slight delay from our initially stated September debut date. We hope for your understanding regarding this matter.
All preparations have been finalized. After we announce the official date in November, we will give our best and push forward with full momentum.
We kindly ask for your continued interest and support.”
YG Entertainment.
Today, The members of BABYMONSTER have begun rehearsals for the choreography of the title song. They will also begin filming the MV at the end of October.
Reports suggest that YG Entertainment is making all possible efforts for a successful BABYMONSTER debut, including sourcing high-quality tracks from globally renowned composers and organizing multiple song camps for the group.
It seems that the future of BABYMONSTER will be as bright as the sun.
