KBS2’s Korean drama “The King’s Affection,” starring Park Eun Bin and SF9 Rowoon, makes history as one of the 50th International Emmy Awards 2022 winners for Best Telenovela.
Korean Drama “The King’s Affection” Wins Best Telenovela at the 50th International Emmys 2022
On September 29, the academy announced that South Korea received two nominations at the 2022 International Emmy Awards. South Korea’s prominent actor Lee Sun Gyun received a nomination for Best Actor, while KBS’s historical drama “The King’s Affections (Yeonmo)” received a nomination for Best Telenovela.
On November 21 (US time), the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the 50th International Emmy Awards 2022 winners at the ceremony that took place in Hilton Hotel, New York City. The event ceremony was attended by television professionals from around the world, including from South Korea.
Korea’s first Emmy award-winning drama for Best telenovela
At the 50th International Emmy Awards 2022, KBS2’s historical drama won the first Emmy award for Best Telenovela. The drama beat other nominees, “Nos Tempos Do Imperador” from Brazil, “Two Lives” from Spain, and “You Are My Hero” from China.

In addition, Lee Kun-joon, Head of KBS Drama Center, said,

We will do our best to help KBS dramas play a big role in maintaining the potential of K-content.”

“The King’s Affection (Yeonmo),” starring Park Eun Bin and Rowoon, ended last December. The historical drama is set in the Joseon Dynasty, when twins were considered a bad sign. Therefore, when the Crown Princess Consort gives birth to twins, an order is delivered to kill the female one. However, the Crown Princess Consort secretly sent her out of the palace to save her.
A few years later, the twin daughter comes to the palace to serve as a maid. The Crown Princess Consort recognizes her daughter as a court maid, Dam Yi. When the male twin, Crown Prince Lee Hwi, is killed by mistaken identity, Crown Princess Consort convinces her daughter to take her twin brother’s place.
Actress Park Eun Bin showed outstanding performance in her role as the Crown Prince. Furthermore, with the chemistry of the two leading roles, Park Eun Bin and Rowoon, the drama received lots of love and support from viewers around the world.
