Following the open-ended conclusion of “Signal,” tvN has officially responded to fans’ anticipation by announcing a second season of the popular South Korean crime thriller drama, titled “The Second Signal.” Adding to the excitement, the original cast members—Kim Hye Soo, Cho Jin Woong, and Lee Je Hoon—will reprise their roles in “Signal” Season 2. Additionally, other prominent actors will reportedly feature in the upcoming sequel. Here are the details!
“Signal” Season 2 – “The Second Signal” Is Coming with Original Cast
On March 5, tvN announced that the Korean drama “Signal” season 2, titled “The Second Signal,” is officially in production, with its original cast members—Kim Hye Soo, Jo Jin Woong, and Lee Je Hoon are set to reprise their roles. Further, the series production has started. The series is scheduled to air in the first half of 2026 as part of tvN’s 20th anniversary.

“Signal” Korean Drama
tvN aired the first season of “Signal” in 2016. The series, which combines thrilling investigations and sci-fi, attracted many viewers during its run.
The story follows detectives from the present and past detectives who communicate across parallel worlds using a mysterious walkie-talkie, which they can only use at night and for a few minutes.
The detectives team up to solve the long-unsolved cases. After solving their first case, they set up a special unit to reinvestigate other cold cases. Shockingly, several cases featured are inspired by real-life events.
As per Nielsen Korea, its final episode achieved an average viewership rating of 13.4%, peaking at 15%. With this feat, “Signal” became one of the most popular Korean dramas of all time.
In addition to this achievement, the series won several awards at prestigious ceremonies, including the Baeksang Arts Awards, APAN Star Awards, and Asia Artist Awards.
The series has an engaging storyline, an innovative premise, and stellar performances. Since the first season ended with an open ending, those elements are sure to intrigue fans of the series about what the upcoming second season has in store.
“The Second Signal”
Renowned writer Kim Eun Hee, who penned the script for the first season, returns to write the “The Second Signal.”Prominent director Ahn Tae Jin of “The Night Owl” will direct the series. Additionally, well-known production houses—Studio Dragon, Baram Pictures, and BA Entertainment—will co-produce the series.
Furthermore, the original cast will reunite to reprise their roles in “The Second Signal.” They include:
- Kim Hye Soo as Detective Cha Soo Hyun from the Cold Case Unit,
- Jo Jin Woong as Detective Lee Jae Han, and
- Lee Je Hoon as Profiler Park Hae Young.
Additionally, prominent actors Jo Jin Woo of “Gangnam B-Side” and Son Hyun Joo of “The Good Detective” will make special appearances in the upcoming series. Actor Ahn Jae Hong, known for his roles in “Mask Girl”and “Chicken Nugget,” will also join the cast. He will introduce a new character in the series.
