During these past few weeks, “Twenty-Five Twenty-One” Korean drama has always maintained its popularity as Korea’s Most Talked about drama. Last week, “Twenty-Five Twenty-One” even managed to stay at the top, defeating the rising popularity of “A Business Proposal” and its cast members, Ahn Hyo Seop, Kim Sejeong, Seol In Ah, and Kim Min Gue.

However, the question is: does the popularity really lie only on the quality of the drama, or are there other issues that make them the talk of the town this week?

Recently, “Twenty-Five Twenty-One” has ignited a controversy after their inappropriate placement of the 9-11 tragedy scene during episode 15.

What REALLY Happened?

On April 3, various Korean media reported that “Twenty-Five Twenty-One” Korean drama has inappropriately placed the 9-11 tragedy scene in Episode 15.

During this episode, Nam Joo Hyuk’s character, Baek Yi Jin, had to rush to the United States to cover the news of the tragedy due to his profession as a reporter. He was appalled at the situation of the tragedy, but he still had to cover the news at the scenes.

But that is NOT the main problem.

While Baek Yi Jin was covering the 9-11 tragedy scene in the US, he began a long-distance relationship with the female lead, Na Hee Do. And since the time setting in the drama was during the late 1990s, there was no means for the couple to see each other’s faces in the middle of their busy schedule.

That is why Na Hee Do’s only hope to see Baek Yi Jin was through his daily news coverage. She would find happiness every time she could see her beloved on the screen.

However, there was one controversial scene when Baek Yi Jin was covering the 9-11 news while actually playing the tragedy’s footage in the background in “Twenty-Five Twenty-One” episode 15. Then, the drama showed Na Hee Do laughing happily to see Baek Yi Jin while he was standing in what seemed to be the destroyed building scene in the 9-11 tragedy. And this is the part that triggered the issue.

The Gravity of 9-11 Tragedy and Its Scene, Especially for International Citizens

The 9-11 tragedy took a toll on the country and its people in a way others can never imagine.

People lost their family, relatives, and loved ones during the events. And there is no way others can relate to what they’ve been going through. Some people say that the tragedy was so evocative that most people involved would still remember precisely where they were standing when they heard the news.

The 9-11 incident also brought massive effects on global society and culture in general, not just in America. From the economy, politics, and social situations, the tragedy basically changed people’s lives, and brought them into despair. Some of them managed to get back up, but there are also others who remained hopeless. To this day, people are still living with the repercussions and aftermath of the 9-11 tragedy.

On the other hand, the “Twenty-Five Twenty-One” drama itself also brought the dire importance of the 9-11 tragedy. That is especially after the “Twenty-Five Twenty-One” drama scene stressing that this particular tragedy sets the main couple apart. Hence, it shows that the 9-11 tragedy was so severe that even Baek Yi Jin suffered from the effect himself by covering its news.

Yijin was in a mentally dark place when he was in NY reporting on 9/11, and heedo’s support just wasn’t helping him anymore. They could never meet up because of the physical distance ofc but also bc of their busy schedules. They were soulmates, but ig just weren’t meant to be :’)
