Apgujeong, the most glamorous part of Seoul, thrives with new possibilities. Dae-guk (Ma Dong-seok aka Don LEE), a native of Apgujeong who rules its ground and is eager to start his groundbreaking plastic surgery business. Then he encounters the most talented surgeon in the area, Ji-woo (JUNG Kyung-ho), who lost his medical license due to someone sabotaging his reputation. Dae-guk effortlessly comes up with an idea to make this business happen, and he undoubtedly does everything he can to make Ji-woo his partner. Finally, Dae-guk and Ji-woo open a whole new era of Apgujeong together.

Men of Plastic (압구정 리포트) or also known Apgujeong Ripoteu , Apgujeong Report, was first released in 2022.

Director IM Jin Soon first took an interest in the subject matter. He started asking questions such as ‘Why did the plastic surgery industry plant itself in the middle of Apgujeong, and who first came up with this idea?’ He also took an interest in the character of Dae-guk, ‘someone whose job is never clear, but goes everywhere and knows everyone in town. Even if it’s not Apgujeong, there’s always someone like Dae-guk in each city,’ and came up with the character who is an Apgujeong native.

In the early 2000s, when people were so interested in their appearance and fashion style, the streets of Apgujeong oozed youthful energy that highlighted their unique styles. As a result, plastic surgery clinics started appearing in every alley.

These clinics did not rely on word-of-mouth and deployed professional marketing strategies, and a few highly talented surgeons became stars and appeared on TV and news programs. As a result, plastic surgery became a legitimate industry, and the beauty business in Apgujeong became one of the biggest in the world, turning this district into a ‘beauty city,’ bringing many plastic surgery tourists from all over the world, contributing to the tourism industry of the city.

Men of Plastic tells the untold story of how the inception of this idea came to be, the characters who raised capital to start this business, and anecdotes of those who dreamed of becoming the next big thing.

Dae-guk, who always seems to have a ‘killer idea,’ comes across unlicensed Ji-woo, instantly realizes his potential and ambition, and convinces him to partner up. Combining Dae-guk’s initiative, Ji-woo’s talent, Mi-jung’s info network, Tae-cheon’s capital, and Gyu-ok’s connections, their idea of starting a plastic surgery center turns into a beautiful city. Can their attempt to create a well-known plastic surgery center all over Asia bear fruit?
