On September 17, I had the opportunity to attend the premiere screening of the Korean action film “Veteran 2” also known as “I, The Executioner,” which is the sequel of the hit movie “Veteran.” Here’s my review of the stunning Korean movie “Veteran 2,” starring Hwang Jumin and Jung Hae In.
*SPOILER ALERT: THIS TEXT DISCLOSES SIGNIFICANT PLOT POINTS FROM A RECENT FILM OR SERIES.*
Watch the new Korean Film “Veteran 2 “: “I, The Executioner”
The new Korean movie “I, The Executioner” is the thrilling sequel to the Korean action movie “Veteran,” released in 2015. The filming of the sequel began in the second half of last year under the title “I The Executioner.”
The prequel film “Veteran” follows a team of veterans who pursue Jo Tae Oh, a third-generation chaebol played by Yoo Ah In. In its sequel, the thrilling new crime action film “I, The Executioner,” actor Hwang Jung Min returns as Seo Do Cheol, while Jung Hae In joins the cast as young detective Park Sun Woo.
The Korean action movie “I, The Executioner” was screened at CGV Grand Indonesia at 7:00 PM. Before the film began, a 10-minute video featuring the film’s director, Ryoo Seung Wan, and lead actors, Hwang Jung Min and Jung Hae In, was shown.
Jung Hae In excitedly announced that the movie would be released in Indonesia soon, stating, “I heard that “Veteran 2” will be released in Indonesia soon,” which raised the hype among the audience in the studio.
Moreover, the director described the film as ’a thrilling crime thriller.’ In addition, Hwang Jung Min also shared a tip about the movie: “Not only does the identity of the veterans become more exciting, but there will also be surprises that were not seen in the first season of Veteran.”
Jung Hae In’s Captivating New Character and Role in “Veteran 2”
In the movie “Veteran 2,” Jung Hae In plays Park Sun Woo. The author sees that Jung Hae In is able to play his role exceptionally, especially in displaying the role’s various expressions smoothly and well in each scene, raising questions about what comes next.
Moreover, Jung Hae In’s role in the movie is a martial arts expert. The film proves that the actor is able to perform powerful fighting scenes that successfully leave the audience gasping. In addition, the character has a unique technique for knocking out and even killing his opponent, called ‘Triangle Leg Lock,’ also known as ‘Triangle Choke.’
In addition, Jung Hae In successfully displayed Park Sun Woo’s analytical ability to read people and cases and determine whether to solve them properly or embrace them with violence.
Korean Film “Veteran 2” A Powerful Sequel Compared to Its Prequel “Veteran”
The prequel “Veteran,” released in 2015, clearly displayed the issues between good and evil. Meanwhile, the movie “Veteran 2” highlights more complex matters in fighting between good and evil in today’s era. The storyline focuses on fighting crimes and delving into deeper social issues.
In this sequel, the veteran team’s characters remain unchanged. Meanwhile, the villain evolves to display a duality of criminal behavior and secretive actions.
A Blend of Thrilling Action with Social Conflict Issues
The movie “Veteran 2” presents a scene of fighting new crimes today. The film begins with a raid on a gang of housewives gambling in the Gangnam area. This case was unsolved in the previous movie, “Veteran.”
Next, a case of sexual harassment involving a high-level official was introduced to the audience. Subsequently, issues of bullying and violence among students in schools, along with domestic violence and cybercrime, are portrayed.
Then drug abuse, which has an international network of dealers who are difficult to trace, leading to an increasing number of deaths and disabilities. Finally, the film addresses fake news and public lies spread by influencers and the media, which can damage public trust in civil servants. In this film, a YouTuber takes advantage of social cases and creates fake news solely to gain popularity.
As the veteran team faces these cases, the action scenes escalate. The film showcases multiple thrilling actions that captivate the audience.
The most thrilling moment unfolds when the veteran team chases the suspected haechi under a heavy downpour. In this gripping scene, the fierce showdown between veteran detective Seo Do Cheol and young detective Park Sun Woo, as they confront the suspected haechi (played by the talented Ahn Bo Hyun), is incredibly intense, leaving audiences breathless.
Will There Be a Sequel to “Veteran 2”?
Don’t miss the over-credit scene in the final segment, as it’s a must-see before you exit the cinema! This tantalizing glimpse hints at the possibility of another sequel to “Veteran 2.” Let’s keep our fingers crossed for that!
The film “Veteran 2” has also received invitations to be showcased at the prestigious 2024 Cannes Film Festival and the 2024 Toronto Film Festival. Furthermore, according to data from CJ Entertainment Movie and the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), “Veteran 2” has attracted an impressive 4 million viewers within six days of its premiere on September 13, 2024. Consequently, it has entered the Korean Box Office faster than “Exhuma” and “Round-Up.”
