The previous 2022 comeback and world tour announcement of 3rd gen legendary girl group BLACKPINK has skyrocketed the group’s popularity. Therefore, one of South Korea’s prominent magazine chains, Rolling Stone Korea, recently released a special feature article on July 11 to spice up and create an exciting prologue for BLACKPINK comeback 2022.
Unfortunately, this BLACKPINK special feature has backfired on both Rolling Stone Korea and the writer, Kim Young Dae.
Instead of a refreshing prologue to BLACKPINK 2022 comeback, the special feature resulted in fans demanding Rolling Stone Korea and Kim Young Dae apologize to BLACKPINK Jisoo and Lisa for allegedly disrespecting them.
What REALLY Happened
On July 12, various media reported that Rolling Stone Korea had angered BLACKPINK fans that they demanded the magazine to apologize. The magazine has allegedly disrespected BLACKPINK members Jisoo and Lisa in some statements they made in their recently published article.
Indeed, the special feature was meant to act as part of a prologue for BLACKPINK 2022 comeback. It discussed about BLACKPINK’s achievements and praised their skyrocketing popularity as one of the most prominent Kpop girl groups worldwide.
However, there were some statements that fans had deemed disrespectful, especially towards BLACKPINK members Jisoo and Lisa.

The first statement was when Rolling Stone Korea described Jisoo as someone who does not possess the most outstanding talent as a vocalist or dancer.

In addition to the statement about Jisoo, fans also demand the magazine apologize for their discriminatory remarks about BLACKPINK Lisa.
According to the magazine, BLACKPINK Lisa has iconic touch on her physical charm. And they used the term “exotic” to describe BLACKPINK Lisa’s appearance.

While these statements may seem harmless on the outside, it resulted in fans demanding Rolling Stone Korea to apologize to BLACKPINK Jisoo and Lisa. They believe that the above statements had created a biased opinion about the two BLACKPINK members.
Firstly, as one of BLACKPINK’s main vocalists, Jisoo has marked her name in the Korean entertainment industry with her iconic voice that is one of a kind. And while she may not be the lead dancer of the group, Jisoo has proved herself to possess flawless dancing skills in all her performances.
That is why fans believe that describing Jisoo as a person who lacks talent as both vocalist and dancer is highly disrespectful.

At the same time, the above statements from Rolling Stone Korea were meant to praise Lisa, indeed. However, the words “exotic” and “kinks” are particularly sensitive for BLACKPINK fans. Due to the viral criticism surrounding their BLACKPINK feature, Rolling Stone Korea has revised their statements within the article. However, fans are still waiting for a clear statement and demand the magazine to apologize to BLACKPINK Jisoo and Lisa officially.
