TV Chosun further reported that Hellbound actor Yoo Ah In had violated the Narcotic Control Act by illegally abusing the use of drugs, specifically propofol.
According to the report, the prominent actor habitually administered propofol during his multiple hospital visits.

Why is Propofol Illegal in South Korea?
Propofol is a common medication used for sedatives and anesthesia. It is a short-acting drug that causes the user to experience decreased consciousness and memory loss for certain events. In general, propofol is beneficial for starting and maintaining general anesthesia, as a sedative for mechanically ventilated adults, and for various other sedation purposes. And medical professionals commonly administer propofol via injection, typically lasting for 5 – 10 minutes.
In South Korea, however, propofol has been considered a controlled substance since February 2011. Since it is a common medicine for sedatives and anesthesia, propofol has a high potential for abuse. In fact, research has proven that the mistreatment of propofol is still happening frequently in South Korean hospitals despite being a controlled substance.
That is why The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety constantly monitors this medication’s usage. Any excessive use and abuse of propofol will be eligible for violating the Narcotic Control Act.
