Protested by Korean Health and Medical Workers’ Union (KHMU), YG Entertainment considers editing Jennie’s controversial ‘nurse outfit’ scene in Lovesick Girls music video.
Lovesick Girls Controversial Nurse Outfit
In Blackpink music video released on October 2, there was a scene where Jennie dressed as a nurse. The scene came with the lyrics ‘No doctor could help when I’m lovesick.”
KHMU complained the scene due to leading the wrong idea of how nurse works. KHMU pointed out that a nurse doesn’t wear a tight dress and high heels.
Moreover, the controversial nurse outfit protest continued on social media with hashtags, such as #Stop_Sexualizing_Nurses and #nurse_is_profession
YG Responded over the Jennie’s Controversial Scene
Regarding the controversial nurse outfit scene, YG earlier encouraged viewers to see the music video as an independent genre of art. They said that they made Jennie’s controversial scene in Lovesick Girls music video “with no other intention than to express the music.”
Official Statement from YG Entertainment
In an official statement released on Wednesday, October 7, YG Entertainment wrote,
“We have ultimately decided to delete all scenes involving the nurse outfit in BLACKPINK’s ‘Lovesick Girls’ MV, and we plan on replacing the MV with the edited version as soon as possible.
We will take this opportunity to deeply reflect on the heavy responsibilities laid out before us through this issue, caused due to the fact that we were unable to predict the rise of such controversy within the length of the MV’s production as there was no external intention whatsoever.
We would like to sincerely apologize to nurses who felt discomfort from this issue. And once again, we deliver our sincerest feelings of respect toward all healthcare workers devoting themselves to the wellbeing of our nation. Thank you.”
