Once discarded, now needed: you truly never know what you’ve got until it’s actually gone. That is probably what YG Entertainment feels about its legendary artists, 2NE1. Amid all the financial crisis they’re facing, the company has apparently turned to their once-discarded legends. But the question is, will 2NE1 members really make a comeback in 2024 and finally save YG Entertainment, the company that once discarded them mercilessly? Let’s find out in the complete report below.
YG Entertainment Reportedly Facing 2024 Financial Crisis
YG Entertainment just released its financial report for the second quarter of 2024, and it’s sparking a lot of conversations. From April to June, YG only made 300 million won in profit, which has people speculating about the company’s performance.
Previously, the company was at the top of its glory with the global success of BLACKPINK. All 4 BLACKPINK members were the world’s top artists and fashion icons, bringing the company massive income and building their impressive portfolio.
However, BABYMONSTER, TREASURE, and AKMU are the only busiest artists at YG right now. WINNER’s Seunghoon recently dropped his solo album “My Type,” and the full group is expected to reunite when Mino finishes his military service. Meanwhile, while BABYMONSTER has shown impressive performances as YG’s rookies, they don’t really make sensations, especially compared to the rival group, NewJeans.
Hence, YG’s profits in the second quarter were pretty low compared to other major agencies like SM, JYP, and HYBE.
This has fans worried about YG’s financial health. Experts say the agency might be struggling because BLACKPINK is on hiatus, with the members focusing on their solo careers. Fans might have to wait until 2025 for a group comeback. Additionally, G-Dragon leaving YG at the end of last year didn’t help matters as well.
- “Honestly, Yang Hyun Suk didn’t really create YG. It was Teddy and BIGBANG who made it what it is.”
- “Without BLACKPINK, YG is just another mid-sized company.”
- “Yang Hyun Suk messed everything up. What’s going on with BABYMONSTER? What are they up to?”
- “Looks like YG is going to struggle for a while. BABYMONSTER is still new, and TREASURE, AKMU, and WINNER aren’t bringing in big bucks.”
- “I think YG needs to debut a new boy group.”
- “Do you think YG might go bankrupt?”
Wishing the Comeback of 2NE1 Members to Save the Company?
Intriguingly, with the talks of YG’s going bankrupt circulating among the international Kpop community, the company has also made fascinating moves.
Earlier last month, YG Entertainment confirmed that founder Yang Hyun Suk had met with 2NE1 at their building. However, they didn’t say if any plans for the legendary girl group’s reunion were made. At the same time, one of 2NE1 members, Minzy, recently published an update that sparked the group’s 2024 comeback.
“I’m so lucky to have the coolest sisters in the world by my side. Just felt like sharing a little love confession!”
Minzy.
Today, more updates revealed that another one of 2NE1 legendary members, CL, was seen entering YG Entertainment building, raising more suspicions about the group’s 2024 comeback.
Now, the question is, is YG finally turning to the group they once discarded?
In November 2016, YG previously disbanded 2NE1 without even personally informing the members. At the time, the company stated that it was difficult to continue the group’s activities due to the members’ individual pursuits and the overall direction of the company.
And yet, seeing how many older generations groups have successfully made a comeback (2PM, Girls’ Generation, and SISTAR19), YG Entertainment may just think of 2NE1 members as the key to saving their financial challenges.
After all, among others, 2NE1 has always been the legends that break through the mediocre stereotypes of ordinary Kpop girl groups.
Yet, do you think they will succeed? Will 2NE1 members truly make a comeback in 2024 and save YG from this financial crisis? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
