Despite all the controversial issues surrounding “Snowdrop”, there is something we have been wondering about for a while now. Why and how come did the “Snowdrop” director choose BLACKPINK Jisoo for the lead role for this drama? Check out his reasons.
“Snowdrop” Director Personally Chose BLACKPINK Jisoo as Female Lead Role, Eun Yeong Ro
Indeed, Kim Jisoo has always been an outstanding singer and wonderful performer in BLACKPINK. However, most Kdrama fans will agree that Jisoo is still a rookie actress in the Korean film industry. So, why did the “Snowdrop” director decide to choose BLACKPINK Jisoo as the lead role, Eung Yeong Ro?
On December 18, “Snowdrop” drama held an online press conference with its cast and crew members, including director Jo Hyun Tak and lead roles BLACKPINK Jisoo and Jung Hae In. This drama also involves an impressive lineup of supporting actors: Yoo In Na, Yoon Se Ah, Jang Seung Jo, Kim Hye Yoon, Heo Joon Ho, Jung Yoo Jin, Park Sung Woong, Kim Jung Nan, and Jung Hye Yoon.

During the conference, director Jo Hyun Tak shared various information regarding “Snowdrop”. However, it became even more interesting when the “Snowdrop” director conveyed the REAL reason why he chose BLACKPINK Jisoo as the female lead role.
Actor Jung Hae In Rejected “Snowdrop” Director Several Times
First and foremost, as a veteran director working in the Kdrama industry, we all should know that director Jo Hyun Tak had always wanted professionals working for his drama.
That is why for the other lead role, he had always imagined actor Jung Hae In playing as the male main for “Snowdrop”. Even after Jung Hae In rejected his offers several times, the director kept on trying—repeatedly—until the actor finally took the role.
“Jung Hae In was the actor I had really wanted to work with since the beginning stages. So I kept having Jung Hae In and our writer as the top priorities right from the early stages as I materialized and prepared for ‘Snowdrop’.
Actor Jung Hae In had rejected my first offer. But thankfully, after numerous considerations, he said yes. We met for drinks on the day Jung Hae In took the role, and it was one of the happiest days working on the drama.”

Director Jo Hyun Tak NEVER Intended to Cast Rookie Actors
However, neither the writer nor director had a complete imagination yet for the female character Yeong Ro. That is why they had NEVER intended to cast a rookie actor. “Snowdrop” director wanted to cast a professional actress to complete the visualization and materialization of Yeong Ro.
“I had no intention of casting a rookie actress initially. Although the writer and I had been preparing Yeong Ro’s character, we didn’t know what kind of person she was. And it was hard to imagine Yeong Ro in real life. Therefore, we thought the actor would have to come and complete the character.”

BLACKPINK Jisoo is “Snowdrop” Lead Role, Yeong Ro, in Real Life
Then, once BLACKPINK Jisoo auditioned for the lead role Yeong Ro, “Snowdrop” director Jo Hyun Tak completely changed his mind. As soon as he met BLACKPINK Jisoo, the director thought she was Yeong Ro in real life.
“As soon as I saw Jisoo’s audition. I just knew that ‘Yes. This person is Yeong Ro’. We decided on it right away and thought that we had to work on it immediately.”

Director Jo Hyun Tak Even Insisted and “Threatened” BLACKPINK Jisoo to Take the Role
Moreover, director Jo Hyun Tak was incredibly sure that BLACKPINK Jisoo was the one and only actress for “Snowdrop” lead role, Yeong Ro. That is why he insisted and even “threatened” BLACKPINK Jisoo to tell her company that she wanted to take the role.
“I don’t know if Jisoo remembers this. But I clearly told her, ‘You have to do this no matter what, and immediately’ I threatened her to tell her agency that she wants to take the role.”

BLACKPINK Jisoo and Jung Hae In: the Perfect “Snowdrop” Couple with Perfect Chemistry
The director’s insistence has proved to bear highly outstanding results at the end of the day. Even when “Snowdrop” has just aired for its early episodes, we can already see how perfect the chemistry between the main couple, BLACKPINK Jisoo and Jung Hae In.
Even when we know that Jung Hae In is an experienced actor with a high caliber, BLACKPINK Jisoo’s ability to match his acting skills is truly magnificent. No wonder even amid these controversial issues, “Snowdrop” remains one of the most successful Kdramas this year.
