The sudden announcement of BTS chapter 2 during BTS Festa 2022 anniversary dinner brought a lot of misunderstanding from the public. Even when the group decided to walk the new chapter for good reasons, many people thought that BTS was going on an indefinite group hiatus.

Previously, HYBE CEO and BTS maknae Jungkook had already explained in the clearest way possible that BTS has no intention of disbanding. All BTS members will simply add more solo activities and projects on top of their group activities—something they hadn’t had the chance to do for years.

However, some still believe that this reduced group activity is the beginning of BTS breaking up and disbanding. They insist on spreading the word that BTS is falling apart and even speculated on the next group that will take over BTS’s throne.

Starting from June 18, BTS soulmates, ARMY filled the Twitter timeline with the “Purple String Project” hashtag #ARMYwithyouBTS. It is a movement where ARMY ties a purple string or ribbon on their finger to show their support for BTS Chapter 2 as the return of their solo projects and activities.

Why the purple string?

Previously on June 14, BTS member Kim Taehyung (V) posted his explanation about BTS Chapter 2 with their solo projects and activities. At the end of his statement, BTS V heartwarmingly stated that BTS and ARMY are connected with a purple string.

“ARMY and BTS are connected by a purple thread, so let’s not disconnect and see each other for a long, long time without losing the richness of the color.

For your information, BTS V “purple string” refers to the “red string of fate” or “red thread of fate” originating from Chinese mythology. This string of fate symbolizes fated soulmates: the two people who are connected with this red thread are destined for each other.
