Popular Korean Drama ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ In Talks to Have US Remake
Entering its sixth episode on air, the popularity of ENA’s “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” which premiered on June 29, 2022, is skyrocketing.
As reported by Korean media outlets on July 14, with the vast popularity of the new drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” there have already been proposals for international remakes from overseas, including from the US. And in response to the report, a representative of ASTORY, the production company of the drama, stated,
“We have received a proposal for a remake from the United States, and the production company is currently reviewing the offer.”

According to Nielsen Korea, the drama rating increased significantly in each episode. The first episode rating scored 0.9 percent. Meanwhile, in the fifth episode, the rating scored 9.138 percent, marking ten times increase in rating.
Moreover, the drama marked 23.9 million hours of viewing for the week of July 4-10 on Netflix. Thus, it became the second Netflix’s most-watched non-English TV show, following “Business Proposal” this year. It will also to add services in 31 languages.

1. “Healing” and simple storyline
“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” follows a girl named Woo Young Woo (Park Eun Bin), a rookie lawyer in a major law firm. Blessed with a high IQ, she struggles as a young lawyer with Asperger’s syndrome.
Moreover, her love for the law, extraordinary memory, unique character, and innocence in expressing her opinions leave those around her in awe.
In each new episode, the story brings on a new case. With her strong memory and brilliant ideas, she tries to see an issue from her unique point of view and solve a case with her brilliant ideas. Thus, through the drama, the viewers also gain basic legal knowledge. In addition, her love for whales gives the viewers a new insight about the animal.
2. Compelling characters
“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” cast are playing their roles amazingly. Park Eun Bin, who brilliantly played the leading role of Woo Young Woo in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” has captivated viewers’ hearts. Her voice, her gestures, her eyes, and the way she walks are all very natural.
While other cast members, Kang Tae Oh, Kang Ki Young, Joo Jong Hyuk, Han Yu Kyung, and Joo Hyun Young also played their characters amazingly in showing their character traits. In addition, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and its cast members have been the most talked about TV series topic for two consecutive week.
3. Second drama to adapt with autism character after “Good Doctor”
Last year Korean drama ‘W: Two Worlds’ starring Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo was confirmed to have a US remake version. This year, the current popular drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” may have a US remake version. If the offer is accepted, it would be the third series of a Korean drama with a US remake version.
Moreover, it will also be the second drama series with a lead role diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome after “The Good Doctor.” The original Korean drama “The Good Doctor” aired in 2013 and was remade in the US version with the same title in 2017.
“Good Doctor” follows a doctor who was diagnosed with autism. The series was produced in the US and aired on the ABC channel. Further, the series gained a high rating and made it until season 5. Regarding the previous experience with “Good Doctor,” “Extraordinary Attorney Woo Young Woo” has a big opportunity to captivate American viewers.
