Fans Suspicious of Dishonest Voting in 2022 MAMA Awards
The 2022 MAMA Awards have announced its nominees, and the ceremony is set to be held on November 29-30, 2022. Along with the nominee announcement, they have announced the criteria for each category. One of the categories that will be solely voted by fans is the “2022 MAMA Worldwide Fans’ Choice Top 10.”
There are two stages of voting: pre-vote (October 24-November 4) and general vote (November 10-24). Besides voting on the official website of 2022 MAMA, fans can also vote via Mnet Plus, Spotify, and Twitter.
However, suspicions of dishonest voting were raised as Kpop fans noticed irregularities in the voting patterns of some groups. A Korean forum even put together a compilation of different graphs showing the groups’ voting.
Groups like BLACKPINK, aespa, BTS, and Stray Kids tend to have a consistent pattern.
Yet, fans pointed out that groups like IVE, Kep1er, Dreamcatcher, LOONA, and Brave Girls seem to have an irregular pattern. There was a significant increase in voting in the last few days.
Not only that, but some netizens also shared photos on TheQoo showing an identical number of votes in multiple instances.
2022 MAMA Released an Ensure Fair Voting
Regarding the suspicions of dishonest voting, the 2022 MAMA Awards announced that they are taking extra steps to ensure fair voting.
On November 4, the 2022 MAMA Awards announced on its official website that the voting for the “2022 MAMA Worldwide Fans’ Choice” is undergoing a thorough verification process at every step.
To ensure transparency, the 2022 MAMA publicly reveals the total number of votes and the percentage of votes per artist. Moreover, the 2022 MAMA will exclude any fraudulent voting.
