After a surprising debut with Attention, followed by the release of their first EP, NewJeans, the girls now make an astounding comeback by dropping two music videos for their pre-release single, Ditto. The music videos are so nostalgic yet mysterious that we should carefully watch them to understand the storyline.

NewJeans Pre-Release Single DITTO Music Videos

On December 19, NewJeans’ pre-release single Ditto is out as scheduled. However, it is not NewJeans if there is no surprise. The girls release two cinematic versions of Ditto music videos: Side A and Side B.

Member Minji partially writes the lyrics of Ditto, which reinterprets the feeling of a cozy winter love song through a Baltimore club dance sound. With upbeat bass and rapid drum break, the girls create a piece of groovy music that you can’t stop listening to.

In the music video, we can feel the nostalgic yet secretive vibes. There is a mystery character, Heesoo, who loves to videotape her friends’ activities at school. Meanwhile, the first music video (Ditto Side A) is mainly shot from Heesoo’s perspective. The video includes intricate choreography with a unique hook step that will get viral again.

NewJeans members, alongside Heesoo, spend their high school time cheerfully and seem to enjoy their little world. Additionally, between the girls’ moments, we are made aware of Heesoo’s high-school crush, played by actor Choi Hyun-wook.

Unfortunately, the happy days seem unreal as the illusion of the carefree world is diminished when Heesoo wakes up alone on a sofa. What follows next in Ditto Side B is a flashback sequence with Heesoo in the frame. It is shown that Heesoo’s friends (NewJeans’ members) are just an illusion in her world; in other words, they don’t exist.
