The highly controversial Netflix Squid Game reality show Squid Game: The Challenge may face an official lawsuit from its participants due to severe injuries and inhumane conditions. So, what really happened behind Netflix Squid Game: The Challenge that triggered the participants’ anger and lawsuit? Check out the following complete details.
Netflix Reality Show SQUID GAME: THE CHALLENGE May Face Lawsuit from Contestants Due to Severe Injuries
Multiple international media (IndieWire, Rolling Stones) reported a few days ago that the Netflix reality show Squid Game: The Challenge had been so problematic that contestants considered suing the show.
Netflix reality show Squid Game: The Challenge is a game with 456 worldwide participants competing for a prize of 4.56 million USD. Despite its previous controversy, the show managed to gather the contestants and conducted secret filming around the United Kingdom.
However, apparently, the Netflix reality show Squid Game: The Challenge was nothing more than an overly ambitious product that resulted in a complete disaster.
As a result, contestants are considering filing a lawsuit against the production studios, Studio Lambert and The Garden, for violating workplace safety, negligence, and false pretenses.
What Really Happened: Horror, Injuries, and Horrible Mistreatments
According to IndiWire, the Netflix reality show Squid Game: The Challenge was a nightmare experience for its contestants. And it happened due to the show’s overly ambitious but incompetent handling of such a large-scale game.
“All the torment and trauma we experienced wasn’t due to the game or the rigor of the game. It was the incompetencies of scale — they bit off more than they could chew.”

UK Media, The Sun, reported last week that the Netflix reality show Squid Game: The Challenge secretly conducted its filming in the UK. The show flew contestants from around the world to the UK, where they would stay at a hotel in London and depart to the filming location by bus.
Extreme Weather and Inadequate Supplies
When the contestants arrived at the location, they had to shoot in extremely cold weather. The Sun and IndiWire reported -3 degree Celsius (26.6 degrees Fahrenheit), while Rolling Stones of a temperature around -10 degrees Celcius (14 degrees Fahrenheit).
The contestants may have worn 2 thermal outfits under the show’s iconic uniform, but it wasn’t enough to handle the extreme cold.
Moreover, during the first day of its filming, the Netflix reality show Squid Game: The Challenge was already in dire need of medics. At the time, the show demanded participants to join the “Red Light, Green Light” game for over 9 hours. During the game, they had to pause their movements, just like what happened in the series, for about 30 minutes each. And everything happened under the extreme cold. It was highly unexpected because the show previously told the participants that the filming would only take roughly about 2 hours.
“If they’d told us it was going to be that cold, nobody would’ve gone through with it.”
a contestant told Variety.
As a result, 10 contestants reportedly required medical attention for various injuries during Squid Game reality show, including herniated discs, torn knee tendon, pneumonia, an ear infection, and coughing.
“It was like a warzone, really. People were getting carried out by medics, but we couldn’t say anything. Why? Because if you talk, you’re out.
Even if hypothermia kicked in, they were willing to stay for as long as possible since a lot of money was on the line.
As s result, too many people were determined not to move. That is why they stood there for far too long.”

People Dropping to the Ground and Going to Bed Hungry
In addition, Variety reported that participants—who joined the game without getting paid—received wake-up calls at 3.30 AM local time. The show then confiscated all their belongings, so they couldn’t tell what time the show started.
Beforehand, the producers told the contestants that the game would be for about 2 hours with a 2-minute waiting time each. In reality, it stretched to 9 hours with a waiting time of 26-30 minutes each, with claims the extra time needed for complete assessments.
This was when the horror started.
“The second time the song played, I saw a girl swaying in my left peripheral vision. Then she just buckled. You could really hear her head actually hit the ground.
But then someone shouted on the mic, telling us to hold our positions because the game is not paused. After that, people were dropping like flies.”
a contestant of Netflix reality show Squid Game: The Challenge to Variety.
The contestant stated that the production team finally gave them breaks only after the medic came in for the 11th time.
What’s worst, since the show went on longer than expected, contestants ate what was supposed to be their dinner. That is why they returned to the hotel at 7 PM local time, tired and unfed. The production team only ordered pizzas for them. Still, there was not enough food for everyone. So, some of the players went to bed with empty stomachs.
Netflix Reality Show SQUID GAME: THE CHALLENGE is RIGGED?
Along with reports of injuries, former contestants also testified that Netflix reality show Squid Game: The Challenge was a fixed game. They believed that Netflix already had particular TikTok and Instagram influencers in mind to succeed no matter the show’s results.
According to the former participants, the show treated them like “TV show extras” instead of real contestants.
However, the production houses denied the statement. Netflix, Studio Lambert, and The Garden told IndieWire that the rumors were not true.
“We deeply care about the health of our cast and crew as well as the quality of this show.
Any claim that the competition is rigged or that of serious harm to players is untrue. We have taken all the appropriate safety precautions, including aftercare for contestants.
In addition, an independent adjudicator oversees each game to ensure it’s fair to everyone.”
