Kim Young Dae to Replace Lee Jong Won in New Korean Drama “Because I Want No Loss”
Promising and talented actor Kim Young Dae of “The Penthouse” and “Sh**ting Stars” will reportedly replace Lee Jong Won in the new Korean drama, “Because I Want No Loss”.
Korean media outlet TenAsia’s exclusive report revealed that actor Kim Young Dae had been cast for a lead role in “Because I Want No Loss” (also known as “Because I Hate Loss”). Apparently, the young actor would replace Lee Jong Won, who was in talks to join the new Korean drama.
Kim Young Dae to Enter Fake Marriage with Shin Min Ah in “Because I Want No Loss”
“Because I Want No Loss” is a new Korean drama by rising screenwriter Kim Hye Young, the creative mind behind “Her Private Life”. It tells the story of a marriage contract between a female office worker and a part-time convenience store worker.
Prominent actress Shin Min Ah had been cast as the female main character in the new drama. She will play the role of an office worker who has suffered many losses throughout her life and ends up in a contract marriage with part-time convenience store worker Kim Ji Wook.
Previously, actor Lee Jong Won was in talks to play Kim Ji Wook alongside Shin Min Ah in “Because I Want No Loss”. However, seeing reports about Kim Young Dae joining the new Korean drama, it is highly likely that Lee Jong Won has decided to pass on the offer.
Considering that “Because I Want No Loss” is a project in the rom-com genre, having Kim Young Dae and Shin Min Ah on the same screen will be another exciting combination. After all, Kim Young Dae has repeatedly showcased impeccable duality in both comedic and intense roles in “The Penthouse”, “Sh**ting Stars”, and “The Forbidden Marriage”. At the moment, he is working on a new webtoon adaptation drama, “The Moon that Rises in the Day”.
At the same time, actress Shin Min Ah has long been famous for playing various roles in both Korean movies and dramas. That is why expectations are rising for the kind of synergy that the two actors will portray in “Because I Want No Loss” new Korean drama.
Massive Criticism and Controversy Surrounding the New Korean Drama
While Shin Min Ah and Kim Young Dae pairing makes one of the most highly anticipated character combinations this year, it has also triggered massive criticism from Kdrama enthusiasts.
Over the last couple of years, there has been a considerable rise in Kdramas that pair actors with huge age gaps. Previously, “The Glory” couple Song Hye Kyo and Lee Do Hyun triggered unexpected issues for their age gap of 13 years. Then, a recent webtoon-adaptation drama, “Cinderella at 2 AM”also brought concerns due to the age gap between its main characters, Shin Hyun Been and Moon Sang Min.
Today, the same criticism emerged against Shin Min Ah and Kim Young Dae pairing in “Because I Want No Loss” new Korean drama. The huge age gap between the older female cast and younger male cast raises concerns, not because of the gap itself, but more about the experience it entails.
Shin Min Ah has been in the film industry for over two decades. Meanwhile, Kim Young Dae has only received his first big break in his role in “Extraordinary You” in 2019. This difference speaks a lot in terms of experience, and that is why Korean drama fans voiced their concerns about the skill and experience differences.
This trend of casting actors with a SEVERE case of "one face fits all emotions" with talented and veteran actresses needs to STOP https://t.co/GJNXWgMfLy

Actresses have to hard carry the shows only for their male lead to hoard all the buzz IVE SEEN IT ALL. https://t.co/EWpkJSfcni

especially because then somehow the female lead always ends up being the one blamed for the “no chemistry” allegations https://t.co/Kdhxkgq7tR

Still, it’s too early to pass judgment on a pairing that hasn’t even been confirmed yet. While past experiences may be a visible history, they do not always reflect precise future results.

This is a ridiculous controversy. Kim just played opposite Lee Sung-kyung in Shooting Stars and at the time he was 25-26 to her 31, although the story made them the same age (born in 1992, which was perfectly credible for both. And let's not forget Encounter, in which the 25-year-old Park Bo-gum was aged up to 29 in the story, and Song Hye-keo was 36-37. It was an onscreen age gap of 7 years in the series, but in real life is an 11-12 year age difference. And they were perfect together! The series was a hit! Who's to say that this series won't be equally as good? Both actors have charm to spare; they are also charismatic, gorgeous and very good actors. Why in the world wouldn't this pairing work? I for one am looking forward to it.
