After the massive commotion they had caused, Yonhap eventually followed JTBC and posted an official apology for the false CCTV video footage on the BTS Suga DUI issue. However, was the apology truly appropriate? And was it just enough after all the irreversible damage they had caused? Let’s discuss this further in the following report.
Yonhap News Apologizes for False CCTV Video Footage on BTS Suga DUI Issue
After JTBC apologized for all the massive commotion due to the false CCTV video footage of the BTS Suga DUI issue, Yonhap News finally followed with its own official apology statement.
On August 19, prominent Korean news outlet Yonhap News eventually posted an official apology through its English YouTube channel, KOREA NOW. The news agency posted via the community feature on the English YouTube channel, apologizing for their mistake of associating BTS Suga with the wrong CCTV video footage of the DUI issue.
Late Apology After Massive Commotion and Irreversible Damage Due to the False CCTV Video Footage
Previously, aside from JTBC, Yonhap News also claimed to have obtained CCTV video footage of BTS Suga DUI issue. In their version, BTS Suga was riding an electric scooter through a crowded sidewalk before falling into a curb.
However, after all the massive commotion and hate comments from Korean netizens, Donga Ilbo then posted authentic CCTV footage of what really happened at the accident. Donga’s CCTV then gained an official confirmation from BIGHIT Music that the man was indeed BTS Suga. Hence, it proved that the previous 2 CCTV videos were not true.
The public was furious, knowing that 2 of South Korea’s largest news companies could possibly make such mistakes. JTBC and Yonhap received immense backlash and criticism from both local and international netizens.
JTBC then apologized for their mistake through a live-streaming video, and yet the damage has been done. JTBC will reportedly be facing disciplinary action. And it was Yonhap News that reported the consequences.
“The Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) is also expected to swiftly review JTBC’s exclusive report that aired incorrect CCTV footage related to BTS member Suga’s DUI incident.”

More Backlash for Late and Insincere Apology on BTS Suga DUI Issue
After posting the update on JTBC’s mistake and consequences, Yonhap then uploaded its own apology statement for the false CCTV video footage on the BTS Suga DUI issue. And yet, instead of apologizing through official news articles on its main Korean website, Yonhap opted to post using the YouTube community post of their English channel, KOREA NOW.
The public is even more furious at Yonhap for this approach. They believe that not only was Yonhap too late to apologize, but the way they expressed the apology only showed that the Korean news outlet was not sincere enough to mend the fences after the irreparable damages they had caused.
Finally, what do you think about Yonhap and its apology approach to the false CCTV video of the BTS Suga DUI issue? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
As of today, the police are finalizing the official summons for this case. BTS Suga is highly likely to attend a police investigation within this week. This investigation will eventually reveal what truly happened at BTS Suga DUI issue and whether his BAC level was indeed as alarming as 0.227%, just as previously reported by Korean media.
“We are coordinating the schedule. We will thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the DUI. The investigation has not yet been conducted.”
