Everglow is a Korean movie that portrays an unconventional love story of a couple who have a significant age gap. Director So Jun-moon helmed the film. Moreover, the film starred two main lead actors from different generations. They are Go Doo-shim and Ji Hyun-woo.

A veteran actor Go Doo-shim will play a hot-tempered Go Jin-ok. She is a 70-year-old female diver (haenyeo) who lives on Jeju island. Meanwhile, Ji Hyun-woo will play Han Kyung-hoon, a mid 30 documentary filmmaker.

Everglow Synopsis

Everglow follows the lovable conflict of Kyung Hoon. A filmmaker who visited Jeju to make a documentary of Jin Ok. Kyung Hoon is fascinated by Jin Ok’s ability as a female diver. She can hold her breath underwater for a long time.

Kyung Hoon tries to persuade Jin-ok to make the documentary. First, Jin-ok refused his offer. But then, she gradually opens up to him and agrees to make the film. As the filming proceeds, both of them end up fall in love with each other.

While the plot attracts moviegoers, the big age gap between the two main leads has attracted much attention. Go Doo-shim was born in 1951. She is 33 years older than Ji Hyun Woo, who was born in 1984.

There are many on-screen couples with older female leads than the male leads in k-dramas. But having a significant age gap between the two main characters and fall for each other is unusual in the film industry.

At the press conference, Ji Hyun hoping that the public will accept the movie with an open mind. He also conveyed, “I’m hoping that people would react to the movie emotionally rather than rationally. I believe it will cause people to think about what love is.”
