iMBC Entertainment News recently reported exclusively that Im Siwan and Park Gyu Young are set to star in the upcoming Netflix movie “Mantis” (working title).

In response to the report, a Netflix spokesperson stated, “‘Mantis’ is one of the projects we are reviewing while searching for the best project. No decisions have been made.”

At the same time, Im Siwan’s agency, PLUM A&C, conveyed, “We are still reviewing the upcoming movie,” whereas Park Gyu Young’s agency, Saram Entertainment, stated, “There’s no decision yet.”

New Korean Movie “Mantis” on Netflix

The upcoming Korean movie “Mantis” is a spin-off film of “Kill Boksoon” in 2023. The action film “Kill Boksoon” follows the story of the legendary assassin Gil Book Soon (Jeon Do Yeon) within the hitman industry.

In the movie “Kill Boksoon,” Cha Min Kyu (Sol Kyung Gu) and Cha Min Hee ( Esom) introduced the character Mantis through a conversation. Mantis is revealed to be a well-known assassin in the story.

Lee Tae Sung, who worked as the assistant director on the movie “Kill Boksoon,” will direct the upcoming Netflix film. The original director, Byun Sung Hyun, will also be involved in the upcoming movie as a creator.

Currently, there is no further information regarding the names of the characters that Im Siwan and Park Gyu Young will portray. However, according to the report, Im Siwan will portray the character of Mantis. Additionally, the filming for “Mantis” will begin in August.

Reunion of Im Siwan and Park Gyu Young

If Im Si Wan and Park Gyu Young agree to take on the roles, it will mark their second collaboration. The stars also featured in the upcoming Korean drama “Squid Game Season 2.” In the upcoming Netflix original Korean drama “Squid Game Season 2,” the two actors will feature alongside well-known actors. They are Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Joon, and Gong Yoo.

Furthermore, if the actor accepts the offer, we can watch the versatile actor Im Siwan in action again. His latest appearance in the movie was “Boston 1947.” In this movie, he portrayed the character of Korean marathoner Seo Yoon Bok. 

Together with his coach, Son Ki Jung (Ha Jung Woo), they made their mission. It was to win in the 1947 Boston Marathon and proudly carry the Korean flag to the finish line.

Aside from film, Im Siwan also amazed the audience with his stunning performance in his recent drama series. In his recent drama series “Boyhood,” he played the role of Jang Byung Tae. He isa small and weak boy from Onyang in South Chungcheong Province. Due to being at the bottom of the school’s social hierarchy, he transfers to the neighboring Buyeo Agricultural High School. In the new school, his life takes a significant turn when he encounters an unexpected incident.

Park Gyu Yung

Park Gyu Young’s upcoming movie will mark her return to the silver screen after her last appearance in the 2018 film, “LOVE+SLING.” Since then, she has been featured in several popular Korean dramas such as “Sweet Home,” “The Devil Judge,” “Dali and the Cocky Prince,” “Celebrity,” “A Good Day to be a Dog,” and “Sweet Home 2.” This upcoming movie is a significant moment in her career, showcasing her versatility and talent to a broader audience.
