What Does It Mean by “Squid Game” Universe?
Finally, what does it mean now that Ted Sarandos has confirmed the “Squid Game” universe to have just begun?
According to Forbes, before “Squid Game”, Netflix previously experienced a massive blockbuster with its original series, “The Witcher”. Due to its high anticipation, Netflix began making several productions revolving around the series, including at least 5 seasons covering all the books, a prequel, an animated movie, and a kid show.
Today, “Squid Game” has managed to gain 3 to 4 times bigger attention and anticipation from “The Witcher”. As a result, the series has broken the record of Netflix and even any other streaming platforms worldwide. In addition, “Squid Game” has also gained multiple awards and recognition in the film industry, including People’s Choice, Gotham, AFI, Golden Globes awards winner, and four nominations for SAG Awards 2022.
With that in mind, industry sources believe that a Season 2 is just the very minimum plan from Netflix for “Squid Game”. While it is true that it has more limited source material, it will not be surprising if Netflix improvises with various spin-offs or animations of the series. After all, they are also currently discussing a possible Season 3.
