THE GLORY Kdrama Survives Amidst Netflix FAILED Strategy for Part 2
Netflix The Glory Kdrama starring Song Hye Kyo has managed to survive the failed strategy from its publisher and production house.
Previously, despite all the massive excitement and anticipation during its pre-release, Netflix The Glory Kdrama attracted just a mediocre amount of viewers after its release date on December 30, 2022.
Even with the legendary combo of prominent actress Song Hye Kyo and first-class writer Kim Eun Sook, The Glory Kdrama only managed to reach as high as the #3 Global Top 10 Netflix Non-English TV Series. And this achievement is far less than its predecessors, Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead, and My Name, had previously achieved.
Today, The Glory still managed to survive on Netflix’s Top TV Shows ranking. Entertainment content website Flix Patrol reported that The Glory had climbed back up from its previous #6 position to #4 on Netflix’s Top TV Shows on January 5.
The failed strategy of Netflix to stop The Glory midway and continue its story on Season 2 does not stop the Kdrama from shining.
All the Hidden Facts & Secrets You Must Know Before Watching Season 2
Now that you’ve finished watching the first part of Netflix The Glory Kdrama, there are various secrets you must understand before watching part 2.
Please pay attention to the following hidden facts and secrets of The Glory. Then, prepare yourself for a whole exciting ride in the Netflix The Glory Kdrama Season 2.
1. The Real-Life Story Behind The Glory Horrible School Bullying Scene
Song Hye Kyo’s new drama The Glory had crushed the heart of its viewers with a horrible school bullying scene during its first season. The scene was so cruel and heartbreaking that it became one of the reasons why this series was rated 19+.
While some viewers criticized that the scene was too violent, apparently, it had really happened in real life.
Korean media reported on January 4 that The Glory school bullying scene had based on a real-life story. It happened sometime in 2006, when a female student, Kim, had habitually abused her friend, Jeong.
Even when she was still a middle schooler, Kim habitually abused Jeong using a baseball bat, her foot, and her fist. She even burned Jeong’s arm with a curling iron and scratched Jeong’s chest with a hairpin while extorting money. Kim claimed that the alleged reason why she did it was that Jeong had failed to keep her promise.
Since both attended the Cheongju Girls’ Middle School, Cheongju District Court finally issued an arrest warrant for perpetrator Kim.
The curling iron school violence case was such a massive controversy at the time. It even caused the public to terrorize the students involved along with their family.
Once this secret went public, viewers did not believe such a horrible scene could truly happen in real life.
2. Song Hye Kyo Received Hate Comments and Body-Shaming Criticism
The next fact you need to know before watching the next part of Netflix The Glory Kdrama in its Season 2 is about Song Hye Kyo’s scar reveal scene.
One of the most iconic scenes in The Glory was when Moon Dong Eun revealed all her scars to Joo Yeo Jung. It was a scene where she exposed her weakness before him to dissuade Yeo Jung from helping her. Seeing all her horrible scars made Yeo Jung want to help her even more, proving how much Yeo Jung cared about Dong Eun.
The scene itself was extremely impressive, with Song Hye Kyo and Lee Do Hyun’s impressive acting and heart-aching chemistry. However, some viewers failed to get the right message. Instead, they focused on an entirely different topic: Song Hye Kyo’s body.
Instead of immersing themselves in the scene, these netizens posted malicious comments about Song Hye Kyo’s body. According to K14 media report, these comments were directed at Song Kye Kyo, saying that she looked “flat”, “short”, like “an elementary school student”.
Fans of The Glory immediately defended Song Hye Kyo from these hate comments. They stated that Song Hye Kyo’s appearance perfectly showed Moon Dong Eun’s physical situation at the time: malnourished, exhausted, and traumatized. It means that Song Hye Kyo managed to go all out and create the perfect visual for Moon Dong Eun’s role.
3. Who Killed Son Myeong Oh?
The next secret you must know before watching Netflix The Glory Part 2 is the mystery behind Son Myeong Oh’s death.
During the first season, Son Myeong Oh (Kim Gun Woo) and his desire became one of Moon Dong Eun’s pawns for her revenge. The man used Moon Dong Eun’s information to blackmail the people who had ignored him. However, Son Myeong Oh was murdered before he could run away to Vladivostok with the money.
The secret lied in the fact that the one who killed Son Myeong Oh is a woman with a correlation to a green high heel. Korean media reported an analysis that mentioned these two hidden details, and it immediately brings a question to your mind.
Who is the killer? Was it Park Yeon Jin? Or Lee Sa Ra?
No matter who the real culprit is, Moon Dong Eun will certainly not miss the opportunity. She will turn the crime into a valuable asset.
4. Park Yeon Jin’s Secret Child and Identity
Another possible secret reveals you need to expect in Netflix The Glory Kdrama Season 2 is that Park Yeon Jin may have a secret child.
An analysis from a Korean media report on January 5 revealed that Lim Ji Yeon’s character, Park Yeon Jin, had actually given birth to a daughter. This daughter was born from a secret affair she had with Jeon Jae Joon (Park Sung Hoon) before she married her husband.
And on top of that, the report also stated that Park Yeon Jin is also a daughter born out of secret affair. She was the daughter of Shin Young Joon (Lee Hae Young) and his affair with Yeon Jin’s mother.
5. Joo Yeo Jung and Ha Do Yeong Possible Connection
The next hidden fact you need to understand before watching Netflix The Glory Kdrama Part 2 is about Yeo Jung and Do Yeong’s possible connection.
Insight Korea revealed an analysis that Lee Do Hyun’s character Joo Yeo Jung will possibly go to prison to take revenge. Later on, Joo Yeo Jung will most likely become entangled with Ha Do Yeong. And they will both get entangled in a bad connection.
6. The Horrible Question that Brings THE GLORY to Life
Finally, during the previous press conference, writer Kim Eun Sook revealed the origin of The Glory.
According to Kim Eun Sook, the idea behind The Glory Kdrama started when her young daughter asked her whether it would hurt more if she hit someone to death or was beaten to death.
The question then horrified Kim Eun Sook, making her start writing The Glory immediately.
“I heard a lot of stories from the victims. Instead of a realistic compensation, what they truly want is a sincere apology from the perpetrators.”
Kim Eun Sook.
But what does a sincere apology mean, and how does it have anything to do with the glory? In that case, Kim Eun Sook brought the perfect answer.
“Violence caused us to lose human dignity, honor, and glory. That is why I thought it was only the beginning when one received an apology, so I named the drama ‘The Glory’.”
Kim Eun Sook.
