A shocking exclusive report emerged from Korean media OSEN on April 6 regarding IU and Park Bo Gum Netflix new drama, You Have Done Well. The report stated that the adorable, brilliant singer-actress has been receiving exceptional treatment among Korean actresses and received the highest payment one could ever wonder.
According to the report, in the upcoming Netflix new drama with Park Bo Gum, singer-actress IU will be receiving a payment of 500 million KRW (around 379,064 USD) for each episode she starred in You Have Done Well new drama.
Not only that, but rumors had also circulated in the industry that IU has recently reached an appearance fee of 1 billion KRW. This fee allegedly applies for each episode she stars in a new drama. It means that IU has accumulated a total payment far more than her former sunbaenims, including Korean highest-paid actresses Song Hye Kyo and Jun Ji Hyun.
As the 1 billion rumor was considered ridiculous, the public focused their attention more on the 500-million-KRW payment IU had reportedly signed for Netflix new drama with Park Bo Gum. And this achievement adds to IU’s reported revenue, which had accumulated to 35 billion KRW in a year.

Wikitree reported that The Glory and South Korea’s #1 actress Song Hye Kyo and South Korea’s Queen of Acting Jun Ji Hyun, only received approximately 200 million KRW (approximately 151,552 USD) for each episode they starred in a drama.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s most expensive actors, Kim Soo Hyun and Lee Min Ho, received over 300 million KRW (around 227,329 USD) per episode in Korean dramas.
With such rate applications as the standard in the Korean Entertainment industry, the alleged payment for IU in You Have Done Well new drama with Park Bo Gum has far exceeded even the highest-paid Korean male actors.
And this becomes a controversy among Korean drama enthusiasts. That is especially when huge payment difference between male and female actors with similar experience and popularity has been such a massive issue in the South Korean patriarchal society.
Production Team Denied Reports of IU Excessive Payment for YOU HAVE DONE WELL New Drama with Park Bo Gum
Following payment controversy over IU and Park Bo Gum new drama, Netflix and Pan Entertainment refused to reveal any details. Both companies stated they could not comment on any details regarding actors’ payment. That is because they are legally bound by the contract’s confidentiality.
