Things You Need to Know Before You Watch PROJECT WOLF HUNTING
Synopsis
In 2022, the story began at Manila International Container Terminal, where a group of Korean criminals are being boarded onto the Frontier Titan, a 58,000-ton cargo ship.
After a bomb exploded at the airport during the first extradition in 2017, authorities changed their plans to transport the prisoners on a freighter to minimize their threat to civilians. A total of 19 male and female inmates, including former Red Notice fugitives Do-il and Jong-du, shuffle their shackled feet onto the ship to make the three-day trip to Korea.
Accompanying them on board are Korean police captain Suk-woo and 22 other hardened detectives, each with at least 10 years of experience investigating violent crimes.
Meanwhile, in Incheon, Dae-woong, the captain of the Coast Guard Special Rescue Unit, sets up a situation room to remotely oversee the transportation of prisoners.
Soon the floating prison leaves the harbor and starts making its way to Korea, the vast sea acting as its barrier. The name of the mission: “Project Wolf Hunting.”
The prisoners are heavily guarded, and all is tranquil on board until Gu-tae, who had snuck onto the ship by disguising himself as a deckhand, frees Jong-du and his men, who viciously slaughter the cops with weapons they had smuggled on board. They put the bodies in the freezer, where the blood trickles down and slithers toward the drain like a sinful serpent.
Freed by Jong-du, other prisoners soon emerge from the cabins one by one, shedding their cuffs and shackles.
Do-il, whose dark past always looms over his handsome but expressionless face, steps out with his bunkmate Soo-chul, an old-timer in his 60s. An avuncular, middle-aged thug named Gun-bae also emerges from his cabin.
Meanwhile, in a hidden room below, something sinister also breaks free from its fetters and rises from the darkness.
PROJECT WOLF HUNTING Cast
SEO In-guk as Jong-du
Jong-du is he boss’ son. His father is Pyong-sam, the feared leader of the national crime syndicate Wonkang. Even the most callous men are able to at least feign sympathy, but not Jong-du. He has pure evil etched in his DNA and has been responsible for many atrocities, including murder and assault. His appearance is as depraved as his soul, scrawny like a starved hyena, and covered from head to toe in tattoos.
JANG Dong-yoon as Do-il
Tall, clean-cut, and handsome, no one would imagine that he is a ruthless killer at first glance. He’s quiet and unassuming and used to be an ordinary young man with ordinary dreams until his life turned upside down on that fateful day, like a ship that capsized in the middle of the vast, directionless sea. That day he lost his family, as well as his warmth, his smile, and his will to live. Since then, he has been aimlessly floating through time like a ship without rudders.
JUNG So-min as Da-yeon
In contrast to her fragile appearance, Da-yeon is rebellious to the powerful and compassionate to the weak. Although she looks petite, Da-yeon fought better than most male detectives in her days as a violent crime detective. She often gets on the bad side of her senior detectives due to her straightforwardness. She incarcerated Myung-ju, a vicious female criminal, and boarded the Frontier Titan as a detective for Myung-Ju.
SUNG Dong-il as Dae-woong
Dae-woong is the commanding officer of the Special Rescue Unit, an elite branch of the Korean Coast Guard. He carries over the intensity and discipline from his days in the Navy, where he was part of the Underwater Demolition Team. He doesn’t socialize with other officers outside of work and is an enigma to them, always regarded with fear and trailed by rumors.
CHOI Gwi-hwa as α~Alpha
Eyes sewn shut with heavy-duty, synthetic sutures. Severed tongue decayed into a black stump. He barely looks human and behaves like a bloodthirsty beast—a living, breathing weapon of mass destruction.
