Kpop Inspired Makeup Look Tutorial
Preparation Step
1. Assemble the Korean beauty products
For an authentic Kpop look, consider using Korean beauty products, which can be found in stores or online.
Ensure to have a moisturizing lotion, a liquid foundation such as BB cream, and face powder at hand. You will also need black or brown eyeliner, eye shadows, eyebrow liner, teardrop liner (a kind of glitter popular among Koreans), and lip tint.
2. Care for your skin
Before applying all the makeup on your face, make sure to wash your face thoroughly. Kpop idols value clear, dewy skin. Use an oil cleanser to clean your face and exfoliate with a natural scrub. Use a toner or refresher, an ampule or essence to brighten your face skin.
Additionally, establish a nightly skincare routine to keep your skin clean and well-hydrated. Consider putting a sheet mask to hydrate your skin and pat eye cream around your eyes to avoid bagged eyes routinely.
3. Create a base layer
After ensuring that your face is clean enough, you can use lotion and face primer base, which will help reduce the look of pores on your skin. After that, you can apply foundation with SPF, such as BB cream. Not only will it make your Korean makeup look firmer, but it will also protect your skin from UV radiation. Then add face powder to finish your base.
To reduce oil on your face, you can use an anti-sebum powder on your makeup which is very commonly used by Kpop idols.
Tips:
- Choose the foundation color close to your skin tone in a well-lit area for more accurate results.
- For daily use, choose a sunscreen product with at least SPF 30.
Begin Your Kpop Inspired Makeup Transformation
1. Apply eyeshadow
While you can choose any eyeshadow color, a natural Kpop look often uses neutral hues. Use a darker shade near the eye and on the outside edge of your eyelash to create a 3D appearance.
2. Add eyeliner and eyebrow
Black or dark brown eyeliner will look best with your Korean makeup. To draw the eyebrow, you only need to follow your natural eyebrows shape. If your eyebrows are thick enough, just leave as it is.
Remember to add wings by extending it at the end of the eye on the outside and turning it slightly up. It will give you an adorable catlike look.
If you prefer a Kpop makeup look with an innocent puppy-dog eye that makes you look younger, apply your eyeliner downwards from the outside corner of your eye to form a triangle. Fill it in with eyeliner or a dark eyeshadow for a more subtle look.
Then draw your eyeliner on the inside of the eye no more than 3 mm, just below your tear duct. This trick will widen and flatten your eyes, one of the defining features of Korean makeup.
You can also add teardrop eyeliner underneath your eyes to give them a sparkling look that is very Kpop! Popular colors include gold, white, and cream.
Tips:
If you have oily skin, pencil eyeliner is not recommended. For longer-lasting results, liquid eyeliner is recommended.
3. Create the double eyelids
Despite common belief and Korean beauty standards that double eyelids are prettier, there is no such thing. Monolids like ITZY Yeji, Red Velvet Seulgi, TWICE Dahyun, Arin or other Korean actresses can also look pretty.
However, if you want to have double eyelids for your Korean makeup look, you can use special glues or tapes available to create them.
You need to remember that using tapes or glues for extended periods can damage your eyes and face if used continually, causing sagging eyelids or eye inflammation.
4. Create big dolly eyes
Add a highlight under your eyebrows with a highlighting makeup pen to make your eyes look big and innocent.
5. Add mascara and cherry lip gloss
Complete your Kpop natural makeup by applying mascara and lip gloss to your basic makeup. To have a perfect look, avoid matte lips. Choose lip glosses and tints over drier lipstick for a dewier and moister look, essential for Korean beauty. Although natural makeup is more popular in Korea, many Koreans wear bright lip gloss or tints.
Tips: Exfoliate your lips since flaky, dry lips may appear dull.
6. Creating the Korean Gradient Lips Makeup Look
The gradient lips makeup style is trendy among Kpop idols. Let’s practice first. Apply a bright pink color lipstick to the inside of your lips. Then apply a little foundation to the outside of your lips and blend the two products across the lips to form a consistent gradient.
Once you’ve gotten practice, try other colors like red, orange, peach, or brighter pinks. This might be the most ubiquitous Korean beauty trend. Despite its popularity, it’s sometimes considered a bit weird looking to Westerners, so don’t be surprised if you get confused glances.
Kpop Makeup Look Tutorial: Perfect Your Hair
To perfect your Korean makeup look, you also need to pay attention to your hair. You can observe trending Korean hairstyles to find your favorites. Popular Korean hairstyles include long straight hair with bangs, long and wavy hair with a center part, short cropped hair, and clips or large bows as accessories. But remember to pick the perfect Korean haircuts and styles according to your face structure.
