Im Siwan Will Reportedly Lead SQUID GAME Season 2 as Main Character
It’s been over a year since the discussion of Squid Game Season 2 first emerged. Today, fans can finally expect a massive update from the franchise.
Along with the previously confirmed appearance of Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun, actor Im Siwan will reportedly take the lead in Squid Game Season 2 as the main character.
On June 15, Star News’s exclusive cover revealed that Im Siwan had been recently cast in the upcoming season of Netflix’s original series Squid Game, leading a new story alongside Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun as the main character. Unfortunately, there is no explanation yet for the character he will play in the upcoming season.
More Confirmation & Possible Appearance of Gong Yoo
Along with the circulating updates about Im Siwan’s appearance, actor Gong Yoo will possibly make an appearance in the series as well.
On the same day, JoyNews24 reported that Squid Game’s director, Hwang Dong Hyuk, had been sharing updates and dropping hints via Netflix Korea’s official SNS. According to the report, along with confirming Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun’s appearance, the director also signaled the possibility of actor Gong Yoo appearing in the upcoming season.

So, what did Netflix and the agency say about Im Siwan appearing as Squid Game Season 2 main character?
Immediately after the report circulated on the internet and social media, Netflix stated their clarification to Star News. The global broadcasting platform clarified that they couldn’t make any statement about either Squid Game’s upcoming season or its cast lineup yet.
“Please understand that we cannot confirm anything about the casting of ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 at the moment.”

Additionally, Im Siwan’s agency PLUM A&C responded in a similar statement that they couldn’t yet comment on the report.

Since previous reports revealed that Netflix is currently working on Season 2 and Season 3 simultaneously, it will probably take some time before they release more information on the casting.
After all, Squid Game Season 2 release date will reportedly be around the second half of 2024. Its over 100 billion KRW (approximately 78.6 million USD) budget makes it one of South Korea’s most expensive series.
