On September 9, the Korean Business Research Institute published the latest rankings for the month’s most popular Kpop boy groups. Accordingly, BTS, Seventeen, NCT, EXO, and The Boyz have emerged as the top five most popular Kpop male groups for this month. September 2023 Kpop Boy Group Brand Reputation Rankings
The Korean Business Research Institute comprehensively analyzed the brand big data of 61,583,919 boy groups from August 9, 2023, to September 9, 2023. The purpose of this analysis was to evaluate consumer behavior and assess the participation, media coverage, communication, and community engagement indexes for each boy group brand.
The brand data for this month increased by 7.77% compared to last August’s figures, which totaled 57,141,655. Additionally, the Institute used this big data to determine the rankings of the top Kpop boy groups in September. These rankings were derived from a thorough analysis of consumer participation, media coverage, communication, and community engagement.
Consequently, BTS, Seventeen, NCT, EXO, and The Boyz secured the top five positions as the most popular Kpop boy groups in September 2023.
Top 5 Kpop Boy Groups
1. BTS
- Brand Participation Index: 314,758
- Media Index: 2,392,782
- Communication Index: 2,261,136
- Community Index: 2,816,774
In September 2023, BTS maintained their top position for the 64th consecutive month in the boy group brand reputation analysis. They scored 7,785,449, an 18.97% increase from the previous month (6,543,983). The Institute conducted link, keyword, and positive/negative ratio analysis to provide insights into BTS’ brand reputation.
The link analysis showed a strong association between the BTS brand and the keywords “intense,” “appearing,” and “donating.” In the keyword analysis, “Jungkook,” “V,” and “Jimin” received significant attention. The positive/negative ratio analysis indicated a highly positive ratio of 93.04%.
2. Seventeen

Seventeen maintained their second position in the brand reputation analysis, achieving a brand reputation index of 5,355,287 this month. The latest index represents a growth of 8.30% compared to the index of 4,944,749 recorded in August. The group also received a nomination for Group of the Year at the 2023 MTV VMA.
Notably, the group recently traveled overseas to film PD Na Young Suk’s program, “Youth Over Flowers.” This exhilarating travel variety show tricks unsuspecting cast members into exciting and spontaneous trips.
3. NCT
- Brand Participation Index: 115,423
- Media Index: 1,256,940
- Communication Index: 659,196
- Community Index: 2,009,603
NCT, who recently made a comeback and released the new single “Golden Age,” ranked third this month. The group gained a brand reputation index of 4,041,162 this month. This index represents a 76.15% increase compared to the brand reputation index of 2,294,215 recorded last August.
Furthermore, SM Entertainment revealed the lineup for “NCT Universe: LASTART.” The seven members chosen for NCT’s new unit are Sion, Yushi, Riku, Sakuya, Daeyoung, Jungmin, and Ryo.
4. EXO

- Media Index: 850,418
- Communication Index: 1,337,029
- Community Index: 1,287,290
In this month’s assessment, EXO’s brand reputation index decreased by 21.73% from August’s index of 4,572,081 to 3,578,789. Despite the drop in brand reputation, EXO members continue to showcase their talents and engage with fans through their individual projects following the group’s comeback with “Cream Soda.”
Three members, Suho, Do Kyung Soo, and Xiumin, actively participate in drama series and movies. Suho will appear in “Arthdal Chronicles” Season 2, following his appearance in “Behind Your Touch.” Do Kyung Soo received a Best Actor Award nomination at the 2023 BFA for his role in “The Moon” movie. Additionally, Xiumin will star in a new comedy-drama called “CEO-dol Mart,” which will be released this month.
In addition to his acting activities, D.O (Do Kyung Soo) recently released a new single titled “I DO.” It serves as a pre-release single ahead of his upcoming solo mini album.
5. The Boyz

The Boyz, who recently completed their tour across 12 cities in Asia, earned a brand reputation index of 3,224,010. Compared to the brand reputation index of 2,276,330 last August, it rose by 41.63%. Additionally, they released a special unit performance video for “Passion Fruit.”
