Minari cast actress Youn Yuh Jung wins the 27th Screen Actor Guild (SAG) Awards in Best Supporting Actress “Female Actor in a Supporting Role” category.
Minari is a movie that follows the story of a South Korean immigrant family in America. Actress Youn Yuh Jung plays Soon Ja, Monica’s mother who flew from South Korea to America to take care of her grandchildren. Unlike other grandmothers, Soon Ja has a strong personality yet shows incredible love.

Previously, Youn Yuh Jung was nominated together with other actors and actresses. They are Olivia Colman (The Father), Maria Bakalova (Borat 2), Glenn Close (Hillbilly Elegy), and Helena Zengel (News of the World).
On April 5 at 10 AM KST, the 27th Screen Actor Guild (SAG) Awards broadcasted online announced Youn Yuh Jung, 73-year-old South Korean actress, wins for the Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Minari movie.
Her winning on 27th SAG added one more award to her long awards list. Moreover, she has made history for being the first Korean actress to win the category and became the first Asian winner in any individual SAG motion picture category.

Actress Youn Yuh-Jung’s acceptance speech
Youn Yuh Jung was stunned when she heard her name mentioned for the award-winning. Further, she conveyed her happiness in her acceptance speech.
“I don’t know how to describe my feelings. I’ve been recognized by westerners. It is very, very honored . . . especially by my actor fellow choose me as a supporting actress and thank my fellow actors for choosing me as the best-supporting actress. I’m very pleased and happy. Thank you.”

Youn Yuh Jung is also nominated for the best-supporting actress at the 2021 Oscar Nominations for her role as Soon-Ja in Minari.
