“The Best Performance”
“From the planning stages of Coachella to the performance day, I learned a great deal.
What does it mean to be on stage?
Is it about creating a polished image?
Is it aimed at pleasing the audience?
Or is it about executing the performance perfectly, without any mistakes?
Views on this can differ from one person to another and might also depend on the type of stage. My goal was to create a performance that would engage even those unfamiliar with us, those hearing our music for the first time, making it an enjoyable and memorable event. I believe my commitment was evident, and we delivered the best performance.”
About the Criticisms Against Their Vocals
“Although we are a fairly new group, having debuted less than two years ago with just one tour behind us, we stood confidently on the Coachella stage, enjoyed the moment, and gave our best.
This experience truly marked a defining day for me and LE SSERAFIM. FEARNOTs, life will bring many challenges and unfair situations your way. But remember, you know best what you’ve accomplished.
I put much effort into preparing for this performance, faced challenges head-on, and enjoyed the process.
And I think I managed to showcase everything on the day of the concert.
While some might view it as slightly unpolished, no one can please everyone, and undoubtedly, this was our best performance yet. That’s why I’m excited about our growth as a team and am motivated to work even harder.”
On Comparing them to BLACKPINK and aespa
“What you get by comparing yourself to others and by comparing yourself to your past self are really different.
Please, even when life is tough, find something you genuinely love and focus on the aspects that bring you joy.
Focusing on the positive isn’t indulgence—it’s your right to live as you see fit.”
LE SSERAFIM Received Praise from the Audience
“Today, as I walked around the Coachella grounds, several people mentioned how amazing our performance was yesterday. Just hearing that was incredibly moving for me. The fact that the audience had fun until the end, singing along and sharing such a wonderful atmosphere with us, is the best memory.
No matter what anyone thinks, I trust my feelings. That belief has brought me this far. I won’t compromise my values and will continue to trust in myself. I’m grateful to all the staff, dancers, band members, and everyone who helped make our performance happen.
And to the FEARNOTs who came to see us live and those who supported us from a distance, thank you so much. Because of you, I could perform with confidence. Thank you, truly.
As we move forward, I will aim to surprise you with new experiences, so please keep supporting us. Thank you, Coachella! We’re looking forward to next week, too!!!”

Criticisms and Backlash from Korean Netizens: A Case of “Mental Victory”
Responding to her statement on Weverse, Korean netizens believed it was only a justification for their lack of skills.
Previously, LE SSERAFIM faced massive backlash after allegedly performing bad live vocal performances. Even though the group received a good review from NME, it was not enough.
Some fans even posted videos with the music removed, showing LE SSERAFIM real live vocals at the Coachella 2024 stage performance, and the result reportedly disappointed the fans.
That’s why when Sakura posted the statement, Korean fans only considered it as a case of “mental victory.” It is a term when someone tries to convince themselves of being right using pure belief and justifications. And that is even though everything goes against the logical arguments.
Mixed Reactions from Korean Netizens
The post gained approximately 2500 comments, mixed between criticizing Sakura for the justification and criticizing idol fans for being toxic.
- “It seems like she’s adopting a mindset of Japanese culture, which is really changing how I see her.”
- “It has a strong Japanese feel.”
- “This kind of attitude is really disliked in Korea.”
- “If personal satisfaction is your goal, staying with AKB might have been better. Why switch to K-Pop? AKB’s style suited you better.”
- “Her attitude doesn’t fit well. She should have remained a J-Pop artist.”
- “If I were a fan, I wouldn’t defend this as ‘star power.’ I hope she considers why this post has over 2000 comments.”
- “I’m so disappointed. I’m removing their songs from my playlist.”
- “You’re tarnishing the K-Pop image. Please don’t perform as a K-Pop artist.”
- “If she hadn’t responded, this might have blown over. Why stir things up?”
- “Let’s not be too harsh on her, though.”
- “Don’t label it K-Pop if that’s how you perform. Better to sing at a karaoke bar or stick to singing in Japan.”
- “The fans are overreacting again. It’s eerie how typical this is for idol fans.”.
Finally, what do you think about all these criticism against LE SSERAFIM and Sakura? After all, this is another but the most severe controversy the group had ever encountered. Please share your thoughts in the comments.
