“Hi, I’m NVIY. I make indie pop music and love being involved in every part of the creative process, from songwriting and production to visuals and my surrounding brand. I like to experiment and see where my creativity can take me.”

Finding Music Through Design
Before pursuing music, NVIY came from a design background. But her creative curiosity led her elsewhere:
“I’ve always had a passion for music and K-pop. A few years ago, I saw a video on YouTube that explained the basic structure of classic K-pop songs, and I saw a lot of parallels with design. That inspired me to open up GarageBand, and I fell in love with it.”

And fun fact—her MBTI is INTJ, a personality type known for its strategic creativity. “I’m just now realizing how well that fits,” she laughs. “I’m definitely an introvert who likes to plan, and I tend to think strategically about how I create.”

“Nothing ever felt quite right until this song. It’s soft, intimate, and while a little dark, the theme is actually quite warm. It felt like I finally found my sound.”

Inspired partly by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the track explores love, mortality, and loyalty with a cinematic touch. “I wanted to make something romantic, but a little morbid,” she explains. “In my version, the lovers are separated not by tragedy, but by the unusual longevity of my character.”
A Creative Process of Experimentation
NVIY’s songwriting begins with production first—building a sonic landscape before weaving in melody and lyrics.
“I usually start with the production, then layer in the melody and lyrics. From there, I go back and forth until everything feels like it belongs together.”

Her sound draws inspiration from artists like Milky Day, BIBI, and Chloe Qisha, each influencing her in subtle yet distinct ways. “I love Milky Day’s mellow R&B, BIBI’s edge, and Chloe Qisha’s freshness. I reinterpret those elements in my own way.”

Music for NVIY isn’t just about sound—it’s also about visuals. In her music video for “Yours, eternally”, imagery like water and flowers plays a symbolic role.
“I wanted the visuals to give a cyclical feeling: life, death, and life again. Originally, I used black flowers to represent death, but that felt too heavy. I switched to white flowers to celebrate life. Flowers need water to live, so water became my symbol of life.”

She also embraces AI-driven visuals as part of her creative toolbox. “Technology is a collaborator for me. The fun part is seeing how we can use it to create something cohesive and visionary.”
Independence, Challenges & Identity
As an emerging Asian American artist, NVIY sees both challenges and opportunities in carving her path.
“There’s so much good music that goes unnoticed, which can be tough. But it’s amazing to see how far K-pop has come into the mainstream, and how many Asian diaspora artists are breaking out of being considered niche. They inspire me.”

“I like the freedom to explore at my own pace. There’s a sort of freedom in falling, failing, and getting back up again. It’s painful at times, but failing is always better than not trying at all.”

While “Yours, eternally” leans into darker, dreamy tones, her following projects may take a brighter turn.
“I think it would be fun to try something warmer and brighter next—something that contrasts but still feels like me.”

Currently, she’s working on her first EP, an exciting step toward expanding her storytelling and range. “It’s daunting but exciting to tell a larger story with more depth and variety.”
