After a long wait since the first cast news, the first Disney+ original historical Korean drama series, “The Murky Stream,” has announced its cast lineup, which includes Rowoon, Shin Hye Eun, Park Seo Ham, and Park Ji Hwan. The New Historical Korean Drama “The Murky Stream” Cast Announced
Disney+ is gearing up for its first original historical Korean drama series, “The Murky Stream” (“Takryu”).
The renowned director Choo Chang Min, recognized for the historical movies “Masquerade” (2012) and “Land of Happiness” (2024), will direct the upcoming drama. The series will mark his directorial debut in a series project and OTT.
Moreover, the script was written by Cheon Sung Il, who is known for the trending OTT series “All of Us Are Dead” and the movie “The Pirates 2: The Last Royal Treasure. “
Additionally, NPIO Entertainment, well-known for hit historical Kdrama series such as “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” and “The Red Sleeve,” will handle the production.
“The Murky Stream”
“The Murky Stream” takes place in the Joseon era, when the blue Gyeonggang River turned murky. The story follows three young individuals: Si Yool, Choi Eun, and Jeong Cheon.
Jung Si Yool is a man who conceals his past and becomes a rogue. Choi Eun is a principled and righteous woman. Jeong Cheon is a man who dreams of becoming an honest official.
“The Murky Stream” Cast and Characters
The production team of this upcoming series has selected four Korean stars to play the leading roles. They are Rowoon, Shin Ye Eun, Park Seo Ham, and Park Ji Hwan.
Rowoon takes on the role of Jung Si Yool, a rogue from Mapo Naru. He is aiming for one of the most challenging transformations of his career.
Shin Ye Eun portrays Choi Eun. She is a strong-willed merchant who leads the top trading company in Joseon.
Park Seo Ham will play Jeong Cheon, an anti-corruption inspector at the police bureau. This role marks his first appearance in a historical drama.
Lastly, Park Ji Hwan, a well-respected veteran actor, will portray Maldeok. He is striving to maintain order in Mapo Naru.
Currently, there is no additional information regarding the filming. Yet, Disney+ has announced that the new historical drama series “The Murky Stream” (“Takryu”) is expected to be released in 2025. Therefore, the filming process is expected to begin soon.
