Korean Film Decision to Leave Makes Academy Awards Shortlist for International Feature Film at the 95th Oscars in 2023
Following Best Picture: Non-English Language nomination at the 2023 Golden Globes and Best Foreign Language Film nomination at 2023 Critics Choice Awards, the Korean romance-thriller film by director Park Chan Wook, Decision to Leave shortlisted for International Feature Film at 2023 Oscars.
Previously on August 11, the Korean Film Council announced Korean film Decision to Leave would represent South Korea in the category at the Oscars 2023. And on Tuesday, December 21 (US time), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the shortlists for 10 categories in the upcoming Oscars in 2023, including the International Feature Film category.
In this category, there were 92 different countries and regions that submitted their feature films. The academy members from all branches participated in the preliminary voting, and to be eligible to vote, the members must meet the minimum viewing requirements. As a result, the Korean film Decision to Leave is one of 15 films that make it to the next round of voting.
In the nomination round, the Academy members from all branches are invited to participate in voting. And they must watch all 15 shortlisted films to be eligible to vote.

Decision to Leave for International Feature Film
Korean film Decision to Leave centers on a secret relationship between a married police and a murder suspect.
The police named Hae-jun, played by Park Hae-il. He develops feelings for Seo-rae, a Chinese widow played by Tang Wei. They met in an investigation of the mysterious death of a man who fell from a mountain. Later he discovered that the dead man was her husband. Since then, the two of them kept in touch and grew forbidden feelings for each other.
The 95th Academy Awards will announce its nominations on January 24, 2023. Meanwhile, the Oscars 2023 ceremony will take place at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 12, 2023. In addition, the event will be worldwide broadcasted live on ABC in more than 200 territories.
