First Korean actress to win British Academy Awards.
On April 12 (KST), David Oyelowo delivered the Best Supporting Actress winner in BAFTA Awards 2021. Youn Yuh Jung won the award over Ashley Madekwe (County Lines), Niamh Algar (Calm With Horses), Kosar Ali (Rocks), Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm), and Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah).

After winning Best Supporting Actress in 27th Screen Actor Guild (SAG) Awards and nominated in Oscar 2021, actress Youn Yuh Jung just won Best Supporting Actress in BAFTA Awards 2021. By winning the Best Supporting Actress award, she has just made another history as the first Korean actress to win British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) in 2021.

In her acceptance speech, the Minari star Youn Yuh Jung began by introduced herself and feel honored by receiving the award.
“Hello, Britain. I’m a Korean actress Yuh Jung Youn. I don’t know how to say. I’m just very honored to be nominated — not nominated; I’m the winner now.”

She then paid tribute to the late Prince Philip, as he was the first President of The British Academy Film Awards.
“I would like to express my deep condolence for your Duke of Edinburgh,”

She continued, “and thank you so much for this award. Every award is meaningful, but this one, especially being recognized by British people, known as very snobbish people, and they approve of me as a good actress, so I’m very privileged and happy. Thank you so much to the voters who voted for me, and thank you very much, BAFTA.”
Saying “very snobbish people” directly to British people during BAFTA awards was savage yet very hilarious, making everyone laugh. We can tell she is a legend, and her acceptance speech may be the best awards – acceptance speech in 2021 after Alan Kim’s cutest awards – acceptance speech in the 2021 Critics Choice Awards.
